stopped riding or just hopeless ?
Report madhatter April 4, 2023 5:24 PM BST
Seemed to stop riding once she realised she had the better of the favourite
Report sageform April 4, 2023 5:25 PM BST
The only thing she might have done wrong was to go too soon. Finished legless. She still beat the rest.
Report Mat22 April 4, 2023 5:27 PM BST
She took it easy last few strides but the way the winner finished wouldn't of matter anyway.
Report duffy April 4, 2023 5:27 PM BST
she stopped riding ad then started again when she realized the winner was coming past
Report Cider April 4, 2023 5:28 PM BST
definitely became less vigorous, and then more vigorous approaching the line. doubt it changed the result, but pressing the gas wide around the bend a long way from home probably did.
Report duffy April 4, 2023 5:32 PM BST
We're not talking about a situation where a jockey accepts things as the winner disappears into the distance, she dropped her hands while shes still in front, she clearly was not aware of the other one chasing her down, the fact she then attempted to start riding again proves it
Report Cider April 4, 2023 5:36 PM BST
It is highly doubtful it would have had enough to repel the winner either way. The 'damage' was done. The inefficient deployment of energy was much more damaging.
Report duffy April 4, 2023 5:39 PM BST
Agreed it wouldn't have won but that's not the point, it's a slippery slope if it's alright to stop riding whilst you're still in front because ones finishing well and is likely to go past anyway
Report Cider April 4, 2023 5:43 PM BST
She didn't stop riding in my opinion, definitely thought she had won and began to ease. As others have said, the tell tale is riding hard again once the winner came upside. But will probably escape sanction as she didn't stop.
Report duffy April 4, 2023 5:43 PM BST
Actually on second viewing it would have won IMO because although she doesn't drop her hands fully until very late on she is clearly easing down from the furlong pole.
Report duffy April 4, 2023 5:46 PM BST
1/2 furlong pole that should read, she'd have won if she punched it out to the line, there was only 1/2 length in it.
Report Cider April 4, 2023 5:47 PM BST
Bluntly, she's not a good enough jockey to take those type of chances. There are other jockey's who can get away with it, but they would have sensed the winner coming. But they would not have pressed the button six wide nearly half a mile out! Unfortunate for backers, one that got away.
Report sageform April 5, 2023 1:18 PM BST
As others have said, it was going very wide on the bend that cost her the race. Flailing around on a very tired horse will slow it down.
Report sparrow April 5, 2023 1:26 PM BST
Agree with sageform she passed quite a few horses by keeping wide around that bend and that was the reason for defeat.
