Thirsk card today

Banded racing is back,don't really understand it as Thirsk usually offer decent prize money but this is awful and will surely affect the attendance? although it's a new meeting and maybe i'ts a one off this year?

Bigger fields mostly with the lower grade racing.

There are plenty of 3yo's running today that can be watched for the future. I think its better card than it deserves for the prize money. I'm not sure what you expect in early April at Thirsk.

In the fixture list produced by the BHA, fixtures are designated as one of two types, either Racecourse Normal or National BHA. The meeting at Thirsk this afternoon is shown in the latter category.

I'm not entirely sure I've got this right, but I think that a National BHA meeting is one that the course didn't specifically bid for, but have agreed to stage in order to maintain the required number of fixtures each day. In exchange the course gets additional funding from the BHA and the race program is designed to match requests made by local trainers as to what races they'd like to see on the card.

He's just doing his job. Someone has to keep prize money on the agenda. It is poor prize money but these early season low grade/maiden races are about getting horses sorted out for the season. I have to say that I would like to see more of them even if the prize money is poor.

The prize money is a disgrace,touched on this subject recently.A friends horse was running in class 5 & 6 races over 25 years ago at the likes of Beverley for similar prize money to Thirsk today.Take inflation etc into consideration and owners are in a far worse position than they were back then even though the prize money was considered poor most could at least cover transport and fees for couple of months or more,not so today!!

I liked going to Thirsk,Ripon,York and  Catterick….good food friendly people…..
