His worst habit is that he's usually still telling you what's 12th when the leaders have got about 50 yards to race. Bl00dee awful commentator.

I remember last Breeder's Cup the plastic Yank and Rachel Candelabra doing a preview night.
The pair of them spoke with such confidence about who would win etc. They looked so pleased with themselves Obviously the picks proved to be useless. Blowhard guessers. |

Mark JOHNSON I think you mean onlooker, unless the former trainer has taken up commentating!

True - saxon ...
Although - I hold them both in somewhat equal contempt. ![]() ![]() |

when he first started years ago he was nothing like he is now, he was actually pretty good, then along came this copycat act of a certain US commentator, all the saying and phrases, basically plagiarism, it's all he does now.

"Bunching up at the lane," that is wrong on every level. " Setting the fractions" is another.
He's absolutely appalling as a race caller. |

There was one in Hong Kong that made me smile.
Horse blew a handicap apart on the bridle (clearly a couple stone well in) and the commentator said - wow he absolutely brained them! As a one off it was funny but all the time like Scraping the paint or Catching the wind…lord no no no |

That's why Aussie Jim McGrath infuriated me - every race something was scraping the paint and something was traveling kindly. Commentary by numbers.

At least with Aussie Jim it was natural rather than affected.

Maybe, it's still awful to listen to.
