Ladcrooks have come out of this smelling of 5hit, sums them up for what they are.

I would take them to the small claims court. They have no right to stop him withdrawing.
By:
He's now going to give them his bank statements. I wouldn't.
By:
I agree Clacton, bordering on illegal I would say, has nobody that has had payments withheld gone down this route ?
By:
They dont ask for any documents when the bet is put on. Its only when its a winner that they ask.
Ladbrokes say they are following the Gambling Commissions guidelines. They say they are not telling bookmakers to ask for documents. Its about time all this nonsense was sorted. |

Lee Mottershead - Still trying to make out that it's not Ladbrokes fault!

Hills are probably the worst - according to my "nephews"

if this can happen to Chris Giles there cant be a Ladbrokes customer that could not be caught. They can close the account pf any customer who backs a winner and tries to withdraw winnings without submitting to AFCs. How can the GC allow this.

How can the GC allow this. According to Lee Mottershead and the Racing Post - it is the GC that are forcing Ladbrokes to do this! ![]() Ladbrokes don't have any choice, it's not their decision, they're not trying to be difficult, obstructive or intrusive ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This is Lee Mottersheads headline:
"How affordability checks kept a successful Cheltenham owner from some of his £100,000 in winning bets". Obviously if he had gone with the accurate version: "How Ladbrokes kept a successful Cheltenham owner from some of his £100,000 in winning bets". He would be looking for a new job! |

nd the idiot wouldnt get one. the gc is disgrce. much worse than badcrooks, and thats going a bit. they do nothing. power without responsibility as bldy said
By:
I agree with Glasgow I can’t believe this is legal.
By:
Close your accounts stop betting + going in the shops I won't be going in again with worry about being paid if you don't know go somewhere else you feel more confident.
By:
Just tell them its going to the small claims court. Thats what its for, to claim back money that someone owes you.
Drag their name through the mud. I wouldn't argue the toss with them or send them any documents. Cant believe a racehorse owner would give way to the welshers. Take them to court. |
By:
Jimnast/Glasgow,
i'm not a lawyer as you know, but to my understanding, unless it's stated in the T/C's, the law is surely on the side of Chris Giles. |
By:
... I could even understand ( vaguely ) asking for documents once an account has been payed up and is clear of funds, but to ask for documents mid transaction whilst still holding payments seems outrageous to me.
By:
agree with Glasgow. Its totally irrelevant on your financial situation once youve copped for the bet?? So if his statements showed he(obviously not the case in this scenario) couldnt afford to bet the original amount what are they going to do ?? make a decision whether to pay or not?? Just a load of balloney.
By:
If they want to know whether you can afford the bet, do it before they take it.Dont do it when it has won.
If any bookmaker ever told me I couldn't afford to bet I would claim back all the money I have deposited with them. |
By:
Only a matter of time until someone cops a big win and they say you cant afford to gamble x amount a week here is your stake back.
By:
JJmbe That would be a reason to take them to court.
By:
Big can of worms but they seem to able to do as they please, nothing surprises me anymore, when it comes to high st bookmakers.
By:
They will argue as somebody else pointed out sorry gov following GC guidelines. If they can do it for one and we don't know full circumstances they can probably do it for me and you so don't bet or go elsewhere you need confidence not sure it is all quite there we need details small claims dudes are irrelevant. Now you cannot get on and might not get paid worrying isn't it. I listen to the BetFred ad on the wireless why can't they all be like him? And why won't that rag the supposed bastions of virtue headline this details and all.

Ladbroke of course refused to pay out on the first 3 home in the 93 derby when they found out the young lad who predicted the first 3 home sp 15/2 150/1 150/1 so obviously a large dividend was in fact not 18 years old,at the time I suggested everyone who had ever placed a bet with Ladbroke under 18 should be entitled to there money back.

Feck me i would be owed a few quid

I'm going to need a sackful of Botox to make me look under 18

By:
I wonder if this could come back and bite them all in the arse in future. It could be the new PPI for gamblers claiming back losses after being told they can’t afford to gamble.
By:
That's an interesting one Kenbo taking that a step further you thinking something like a duty of responsibility because must be a line in the sand already.

By:
Jj
As would I and most punters . |

This could be interesting
The social responsibility a bookmaker has to its customers is set to be examined this week as a self-confessed "compulsive gambler" attempts to recover his betting losses from Star Sports in a case that began in county court on Monday. Scott O'Brien of Knightsbridge claims Star Sports were aware of his gambling problem and therefore should have restricted his betting activity at the firm's shop in Mayfair between September 14, 2018 and March 30, 2019. |

Hills allow a newbie to bet £23k in 20mins,
Lads close Chris Giles account and prevent him withdrawing his winnings £15k until he can prove he can afford to bet. Knowing he won £100k after winning Imperial Cup and owning top jumpers. The GC must be aware that the major bookmakers are laughing at them and interpreting their guidelines to suit themselves. |
By:
RP today. Star Sports allow punter to stake £419.252 over the counter losing £48.859 over 6 month period. Its the wild west out there. GC have lost the plot.
By:
I knew a LBO in London where a high roller used to come in once a month and drop £30,000 over 30 years ago.
There was a different case about then about a couple of Arabs and a so called racing manager who were putting so much over the counter there were 2 members of staff just counting their cash as it came over the counter. This ended up in a court case. Then there was Terry Ramsden who did plenty over the counter in betting shops as well as on course. |
By:
Shirley labdrokes have people's details, and cross
match with other data they own such as purple records. Somebody taking them to court would open such a can of worms the cheque would be couriered round. |
By:
Bookmakers should not discriminate between punters who win and lose,a vast majority lose, in any other walk of life, that wouldn't be accepted.
And punters should take responsibility of there own weaknesses instead of blaming others, there's plenty of help out there for those who really want it |

I had a similar problem with Hills a couple of years ago when I was attempting to withdraw just under £300 quid. The jumps season had ended and as I rarely bet thru the summer "can I have my money back please".
We need the following - photo of your passport, photo of front and back of the card you use to deposit money (cover the relevant numbers tho) bank statements (3 months) and utility bill or council tax. I asked why (via email) and they explained GC regulations. So I deposited £5 in my WH account. A few days later I emailed saying are you going to return my funds - they said not until I provided the info they asked for. I emailed back saying you didn't ask for any proof when I deposited 3 days ago - full account refunded within 24 hours. |
By:
maybe that was part of the problem tests your confidence makes you have second thoughts when you win not getting paid. as somebody mentioned above could be something like the PPI issue in the future who knows. even worse makes you think about gambling if I nick a point on an offer will things change it isn't good volumes and betting activity have to fall no good for nobody.
