Trained by Denys Smith, The Grey Bomber was electrocuted in a freak accident on the gallops in 1983.

The winner of all his five races, including the Triumph Hurdle Trial at Cheltenham in December 1982, The Grey Bomber was described as potentially the best horse Smith had trained.

But tragedy struck the four-year-old on his way to the gallops when he placed his foot in a puddle that had been electrified by cables blown loose by gales.

"One of the hardest things I've had to do was ringing the owners to tell them the tragic news," Smith said.

Sad

If it's named after him haven't they got the name wrong ? Wasn't he called The Grey Bomber ? He was electrocuted walking on the roads which were flooded and power lines down. Bloody stupid.
