Must be one of the worst 1.01s ever. Just watched replay and never looked home and hosed at any point.

only £11.34 matched, so it makes you wonder how much was matched on the winner at 1.01. If you look at every horse every day there is usually over 40 grand sitting there to back at 1.01 on every horse in the race, so only the person or company that is first in line would have got it matched.

Yes Steve, every English race I looked at yesterday had a massive amount sitting on 1.01, just look at the next few races they all have it there.

Some 1.01's do go out again, maybe someone is laying at 1.01 and greening up at 1.02 or slightly above? I have tried it with tennis a fe w times, laying at 1.03 and backing at 1.05, never tried it long enough to see if it would work long term.

Looks like you are right Steve, just trap bets

Hardly a 'trap bet'. Laying loads of money @ 1.01 is laying odds that any potential backer feels is value at the time. A 'trap' bet is where the backer or layer is deceived in some way. I doubt these bets are cancelled, because that would defeat the object.

Steve's correct, if someone accidentally puts a large 1.01 back bet in, it will get taken along with all the other higher prices. Probably only happens once in a blue moon, but we have all laid something when meaning to back it at some time or another.

They just have to back it at a much higher price to green up.

Definitely something going on,  6.15 Newcastle the first three in the betting had 65,000  86,000 and 96,000 available to back at 1.01 before the off

ten seconds after the off there was only 2,000 available on all of them at 1.01

Yeah I know all about that. It's like that in all sports, ie offering thousands @ 1.01 when the true odds are much bigger. If it cancels in-running then obviously it was a trap bet, but there are punters who lay 1.01 as keep bets for the reasons I mentioned above. These bets can be seen on almost all tennis matches, even the lesser Challenger and ITF matches with less liquidity, and they're not trying to trap punters, they're there because most punters overreact to players, horses etc who gain a seemingly unassailable lead, and so they may view 1.01 as 'free money' when, in reality, the true odds are not really that short. As someone else mentioned above, the real value is when your lay bet is first in line in the queueing system, whether it be 1.01, 1.02, 1.03 or whatever. If I could guarantee being first in, I'd be happy to lay every single horse @ 1.01 and leave it there in-running, and that wouldn't be a trap bet. However, I wouldn't fancy my bet being taken when the true odds were 1.001 though, which could often be the case if my bet was at the back of the queue. I'll check out tomorrow afternoon's races, but although some of the 1.01s may be cancelled when it goes in-running, there will be plenty that remains as keep bets and it won't be cancelled. That's why there's always plenty which gets taken on every winner.

I just checked out the last race. Around £121,000 @1.01 and £20,000 @ 1.02, which went to £2,400 @ 1.01 and £400 @ 1.02 when the race began.

It looks like a large percentage of that money is there in the hope of an click error, and it must happen every now and again, otherwise he, or they, surely wouldn't bother wasting their time.
