I had a recent horse match    A   V  B  ,,   1 horse fell the other pulled up before the last ,.
after hours of trying to sort this out as I believed the bet was rendered VOID ,.
Back came the reply that the rules changed in February.
I ask anyone to go to  ANY   AVB   bet    click rules and there YOU can read if both horses fail to finish the bet is voided as copy shows
Which of the following horses will achieve the best finishing position in this race? This market will be settled on the official weighed in result.

If both horses achieve the same position this market will be settled as a dead heat. If either horse fails to come under starters orders all bets will be void. Any other non runners will not affect this market.   """ At least one horse must finish the race for bets to stand.""""           If the named race does not take place on the scheduled day then this market will be made void.

At least one horse must finish the race for bets to stand ..

... unless it's us on the other side of your bet.  in which case you lost, unlucky.

They are using the sportsbook rules

For National Hunt races, if two or more of the named horses do not complete the course, the placing of those horses in relation to each other shall be determined, and bets shall be settled, according to the number of obstacles cleared by each horse (according to the official returns in the following day's Racing Post). If both horses clear the same number of fences/hurdles, bets will be void

I can't see any relevant rules in the horse racing section of exchange rules. https://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Rules.and.Regulations/#rulespartc So the rules in the market should apply. Make sure you have a sreengrab of the market rules. Tell them you want to make an official complaint.

"At least one horse must finish the race for bets to stand."

Still there today.

Which race/horses was your bet on @torrdubh?

I bet on these markets most days and I suspect most of those who bet on them know the rules so despite hulk's cynicism I would expect an market incorrectly not-voided to attract a number of contacts, so surprised it is not yet fixed.

Billys rule used to be the horse who jumped the most fences /hurdles won the match bet,I don't know if it still the same.

@second again

"Billys rule used to be the horse who jumped the most fences /hurdles won the match bet, I don't know if it still the same"

That is the rule for most sportsbooks (and in some ways I prefer it) but that is not the rule on the Exchange where (I assume) the OP placed his bet.

Like you torrdubh I always thought that no finishers meant a void bet. I have been both fortunate and unfortunate with this. Like dave I could not find anything the the rules now. Interesting that there is a rule on greyhound match bets - neither greyhound finishes then bets void. Spoils and Paddys next door to each in the town where I live - Spoils no finisher then match bet void, paddys whichever horse goes the furthest wins the match bet. As you can guess there were plenty of arguments

For speed of settlement I suppose completed finishing positions simplifies things.

Click on the "Rules" link on the site for any AvB market.

He meant in  https://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Rules.and.Regulations/#rulespartc

There is a section in the sportsbook that I quoted, but nothing in the Exchange rules.
Report longbridge March 7, 2023 2:26 PM GMT
What does it matter if it is in the main rules page or the specific rules for every AvB market?

Either way it is there and if the OP's bet on a race where neither horse finished was not voided it ought to be.
Report dave1357 March 7, 2023 2:30 PM GMT
I said that hours ago.

Report dave1357 March 7, 2023 2:32 PM GMT
It is fairly obvious that the CS rep and probably the settlers are using the sportsbook rules.
Report dave1357 March 7, 2023 2:37 PM GMT
btw the market rules popup includes a link to the general rules, so if the general rules contradicted the market rules, betfair would almost def use that as an excuse. Howerver, in this case there is no excuse.
Report longbridge March 7, 2023 2:52 PM GMT
So - which market?  As I said hours ago too, there should be a number of annoyed people on here with bets settled as losers rather than voided, yet (as I understand from the OP) BF have not yet resettled the market.
Report dave1357 March 7, 2023 3:07 PM GMT
I suppose he could have bet on the sportsbook by mistake, but he quotes the exchange market rules in his post, so unlikely imo.
Report torrdubh March 8, 2023 2:52 PM GMT
thanks lads for at least reading this .   they gave me a free bet to the value which I had to win with to get my money back.
Report torrdubh March 8, 2023 2:58 PM GMT
I have had the bet voided in previous situations where both horses did not complete the course ,. The betfair rep says these rules changed in February 2023. when I asked what date exactly he didnt know.
Report torrdubh March 8, 2023 3:00 PM GMT
Again Thanks to those because if they did this on this occasion how many other punters are out of pocket,. with Betfair 15 years plus....
Report torrdubh March 8, 2023 3:03 PM GMT
I invite you all to click on the horse A v B  markets .. The confusion for me is still printed in the Rule box,.
Report dave1357 March 8, 2023 3:23 PM GMT
torrdubh - if you bet on the exchange - you should demand that they follow the market rules. If they refuse to do that, say that you want the issue to be dealt with as a complaint. The only exchange rules are as you quoted.
Report torrdubh March 8, 2023 4:03 PM GMT
thank you
Report stu March 8, 2023 4:16 PM GMT
They can't state 'the rules changed' while still keeping the previous rule written in there when you place the bet.

Presuming this was an exchange bet of course.
Report torrdubh March 8, 2023 5:35 PM GMT
the Betfair team have settled my query .I am happy with the outcome . advise anyone to raise a question and endeavour to get an answer that at least explains what happened. case closed , ps, thank you to all the people who offered advise to Me.
