Here's the link to my latest Star Sports #BettingPeople interview. Dave Brewer, someone that many people will have heard of. Over 40 years in the ring most of it with Colin Webster on the rails. Plenty of stories including Barney Curley, Jack Ramsden, Johnny Lights, Micky Fletcher, this is the glory days of the ring, brought to life!

I always laugh at a story regarding Brewer and Colin at Cheltenham one year

Apparently colin said this poxy computer is playing up brewer it says we have a loser for 250k, brewer replied  the computer isn't playing up we do have a loser for 250k, Colin went even greyer and shouted get me out of this Brewer

great days sadly gone forever Sad

In my limited time in the ring, I will always remember the tic tacs that used to put their finger in the air and circle it around in a halo like fashion.

It was 'the magic sign' looking to shorten up the favourite. (Usually)

Lights and Little were the main men in my time, both very, very shrewed.

Happy days ?

It was such an atmosphere on the racecourse back in those days that sadly will never be repeated.

yeah like a bookie grabbing back my ticket and pushing the hundred back in my hand when the hot fav was left in stalls cos they knew and we could see nowt.  Better now there is big screens and no tax. Wouldn't want the old days the bookies had no competition because the tax was worse off course.

that was in a 5f race btw where it was race over.

dont think the jarveys of killarney would appreciate brewers description of  them as a haycart pulled by a donkey  simon, but an excellent interview. i remember barney telling sean purcell (probably one of the finest gaelic players ever) that he woud die happy if he saw fermanagh win an ireland, barney he said you wont be dying a happy man.

He talked of betting with both feet, so they backed the selections of those who they knew to be shrewd and basically laid off the lot and had some on top.
Who would take bets off Webster and did they do the same?

That is real inside information. Mr X is backing (or not backing) Horse Y. Much more direct than third-hand whispers that some morning glory is catching pigeons on the gallops.
