Lots of comments on here about Bryony crossing other horses or distracting them. Was that race an example?

What definitely needs be discussed is how the vast majority of the industry seems to have written her career off. She doesn't get the rides she used to and everyone knows the reason why but it's never mentioned on either of the racing channels. Dreadful treatment for speaking up on something that definitely needed calling out.
Report brigust1 February 22, 2023 1:40 PM GMT
Yes I noticed that. I never followed the old debacle at all but that looked decidedly poor. Jockey and horse could have been seriously hurt and stick in the wrong hand.

SS if you were riding the horse that fell would you say anything? Just wondered.

All about opinions, just because you have one doesn't mean it's 100% right. The horse that fell was wandering before coming down but whatever you're narrative has to be.

I know that this 100% isnt right chief.
Report brigust1 February 22, 2023 2:00 PM GMT
You don't have to copy what I wrote SS. I know what I wrote. The horses were wide apart and Bryony allowed her horse to drift across the track until on the last fence she was right under its nose. It looked pretty obvious to me what happened. That may not be the same for you, c'est la vie!
Report Hibore February 22, 2023 2:19 PM GMT
Bryony not getting rides has nothing to do with Robbie. I can confirm that.
Report brigust1 February 22, 2023 2:24 PM GMT
Hibore, was part of the problem Bryony allowing her mounts to drift to their left her fences?

Report Storm Alert February 22, 2023 3:18 PM GMT
Nothing in that really, she did let the horse drift across the track at second last then straightened up, but drifted again approaching and jumping last. Both times I thought she was just letting the horse find a stride as no horses close to her. The horse that fell was wandering about and came down independently; it was behind and too far away to be intimidated.

Agree with Sparrow, McCoy did the same on a regular basis and don't remember him getting much criticism.

Report Tiger Tiger February 22, 2023 3:49 PM GMT
McCoy DID NOT do it a regular basis, hence the missed criticism.
Report brigust1 February 22, 2023 3:57 PM GMT
I thought it was a jockey criticising her? Pointing out the fact that she allowed her mounts to drift into other horses? Which is clearly what happened here I thought.
Storm you must have been watching a different race to me. They were wide apart coming up the straight, wide apart approaching the last and her horse masked the faller at the last. If I am wrong with any of that I am sure you will tell me.
Report LoyalHoncho February 22, 2023 4:27 PM GMT
Thankfully both fallen horse and jockey got up seemingly ( and hopefully ) unharmed.
Lift the whip above your shoulder and you are automatically deprived of your livelihood for a while.
Veer across the track at the last arguably inhibiting another horse and you get a spot in the winners enclosure without comeback.
Racing today.

Nothing in it-they didnt bump together. They jumped different hurdle panels. Not checked did the stewards speak to her post race?
Report sageform February 22, 2023 8:34 PM GMT
Did connections of the faller call for an enquiry or object? Surely if she is guilty of foul riding (which I don't agree she was) the other riders and trainers would be going public about it? Loads of novice hurdlers veer off a a straight line in nearly every race. It is not deliberate foul riding.
Report Chadfan February 22, 2023 10:27 PM GMT

I have just watched the replay and at the third last, with whip in wrong hand, it ran down it and was corrected back to the rail. At the second last, with the whip in wrong hand and slapping it down the shoulder it ran down the hurdle and was corrected back to the rail. At the last with Midgley steering a clear path away from the winner, with whip in the wrong hand it ran down the hurdle all the way to the faller. Between the second and third last the commentator even said they were quite wide apart. The leader wasn't corrected at the last three hurdles. The whip wasn't switched in an attempt to correct it, the whip was still used running to the last and, though they may not have touched it would certainly have distracted the faller. They were wide apart approaching the last but they were just about upsides at the last. I have no opinion about Bryony but I thought much more could have been done to prevent the horse veering across the track and avoiding the possibility of a horse and jockey being seriously injured. At that would apply to any jockey.

I also believe had the second not fallen and finished with the winner, as it may well have done, the stewards would have said something.
Report shoodacoodadidnt February 23, 2023 9:41 AM GMT
Agreed. Looked a bit odd. Big veer at the last. Hard to believe she did that intentionally - but who knows in this game - actually we talk a lot about the whip, but the truth is horses respond to pretty subtle movements too .... these jockeys are professional and they very much KNOW what they're doing ..... just an opinion
Report LoyalHoncho February 23, 2023 1:24 PM GMT
It;s irrelevant whether it is intentional.  It is negligent and potentially dangerous and should be stopped - female jockey or no female jockey.  But we can't be critical of sweet little Bryony can we?  She;s an ambassador after all.
Report brigust1 February 23, 2023 2:32 PM GMT
Shood I don't believe for one moment it was intentional but as the horse had veered at the third last, veered worse at the second last yet no effort was made to stop it veering at the last where it veered more severely. I do not think it touched the faller but had it stood up it surely would have. Just poor riding over the last three hurdles imo. Luckily neither horse nor jockey was hurt.
Report shoodacoodadidnt February 23, 2023 5:19 PM GMT

BF is probably the most scrutinised jockey riding, particularly by Honcho. I think I am right to say that she has had one two day ban for careless riding in her career, a ban Nicholl' wanted her to appeal. No ban for whip use, while others are dropping like flies. Every NH race has horses wandering, so what's the problem? Honcho, no jockey in nearly 1500 rides has been injured because of her riding. Your continued criticism is so boring. We've all forgotten about the Dunne business, get over it.
Report LoyalHoncho February 23, 2023 9:36 PM GMT
I am over it because I was never under it.  At least not any more than you were who posted on the subject as often as anyone as I recall.  It is you who feels the need to keep trolling it.
When she causes a serious accident - and I vehemently hope it never happens - I won;t be slow in telling you that I warned you.
Report Chadfan February 23, 2023 9:43 PM GMT
Just putting the other side of the argument. Yes, I hope no serious accidents happen too, but horses fall. Presumably when an accident does happen you will tell us, no matter who the jockey is, who caused it.

You;re another liar chadfan  I have never ever averred to detesting - and nor do I - the female jockey, ever, nor have I ever used that word.  Which makes you a liar.  Your resistance is weakened by your lie.
"So what"?  So I'd rather never see a serious accident being caused than wait for one to happen.
People are beginning to see now just how hazardous this jockey can be to other riders and it is about time she was sent back to jockey school to be taught how to, and the absolute necessity of, keeping a tired horse straight.
