My favourite Dickie quote was that Pat Jennings would miss the afternoon's Arsenal game as he had a "grain stroin"

RIP

Grandstand and World Of Sport are very happy memories from being a sports mad child in the 70s....

This the day after Richard Belzer , Detective John Munch in Homicide Life on The Street & Law and Order passed away......

RIP Dickie.

As his hair went entirely white, it would have been quite funny if he'd put a black streak in at the front Happy

I dont know if this is true But had also heard the same story

Don`t know if its true but apparently this was a exchange on a quiz when Chris Tarrant was on a london radio show..
The question to a female contestant was name this well known sports commentator (the answer was Murray Walker)
Time was going on and the poor girl was struggling and saying oh come chris please give me a clue please please..
Well shouldnt really but o.k.... its something you could suck (ie Murray Mints )....
Oh I know she said its Dick,  Dickie Davies!!!!
The story goes that all over london car drivers were laughing so much there was bedlam.. and chris gave her the prize..

The Station must have been Capitol ,went silent for a Minute after the Answer Happy Like to believe its true

Liked that, big aitch...Benny had his critics but gave a lot of laughs and ironic that he died whilst watching television.
