They did fix search, and not just for members (although it is still a bit clunky imo but that's another story).

If it is not working for you, try clearing your browser cache and racingpost cookies (close the site first).

not ever worked for me in chrome since the site change, tried all clearing etc. try and remember the horse's last run, find it in results, then work back from that with horse's previous form, entries etc.

You are right Swifty. It doesn't work with Chrome on mine either, which is a barsteward.

I've just tested search and it works for me with Chrome, Edge and Firefox (on desktop pc; not tried phone). Do you perhaps have browser extensions that might be interfering? Try turning them all off.

the only extension I have is adblock-plus, are they any pop-up settings maybe?

I'm on Chrome on a windows desktop and, for the life of me, can't find anywhere to search for past histories.

Same as me, I'm on chrome. So I tried the Microsoft browser and it worked fine on there.

I just tried.
It doesn't work with Firefox.

It worked using Edge.

Racing post still won't work for me on chrome

I've just tried edge, firefox, still not a sausage. It must be something to do with my firewall I'm thinking, but no issues on any other site to my knowledge.

Doesn't work on Firefox, Edge or Chrome with me. Can enter text into the search box but can't use the button or press enter to instigate the search - diabolical stuff as usual from the Rancind Post. Perhaps removal of all the spam and tracking cookies they attempt to infect users with would help...

Tried that GI but no luck. Works on Edge.

I have found that on opening the racing post website if I opt to decline all cookies the search function no longer works, it used too, before they upgraded the site.To get the search function to work I have to accept all cookies, I am using chrome, hope this may help.

For me it is ad blocker related. If I have uBlock enabled for racingpost.com then search won't work (chrome or firefox), if I have it disabled for the site then search works.
It would be good if anyone knew a way of setting uBlock for racingpost.com so that search works but the ads don't show.

With and WITHOUT ublock origin - (Reluctantly) Unchecked Block Third-Party Cookies - and immediately Blocked them again, when that made no difference

Far too many Variables on far too many people's different Computers for it to be their individual Computers/Laptops etc.

Racing Post Search program probably been written for using Internet Explorer (which has just been binned) on Windows 95.

You might like to try this.   You need to allow Javascript on both M Edge and Chrome..

On Chrome, go to Settings, Privacy and Security, Site Settings, then down to Javascript.   If you find yours is 'don't allow sites to use Javascript', then you need to change this.

I've just done it, if I switch off Javascript it doesn't work, if I switch it back on, it works.

Same for Edge..

^ Same here - and - No Javascript Access/Option in Settings on Firefox and Edge, either.

To get it to work on Chrome.
1. Connect to Normal Chrome (not an INCOGNITO window).
2. Clearing all cookies is a good idea, as there could be some left over from when you used the old site.  (Doing this does no harm anyway.)
3. Go to RP home page and type in your horses name.
(If you are in "incognito" mode it will not work)
I have tried the same on Firefox but I still can't get that one to work.

To get the live video to work on Normal Chrome, deleting all (lifetime) cookies may be enough.  If this doesn't work, there is a little symbol at the top right of the window that looks like an eye.  If you click this you may be asked if site is not working.  If this happens, you should accept the necessary cookies and then it will work.

swiftynifty, the key to this is that on google chrome you clear ALL your cookies from the beginning of time (which will then include any legacy cookies from the old RP website, which seem to be causing a conflict).  To do this you must use the default chrome browser (not the incognito one).  Now when you go to RP website to do a search, stay on the default version of chrome and accept the new RP cookies.  It should now work.  I found that after a restart it worked in incognito mode too.

Afraid you have not even reached First Base with that.

Some of us Clear Cookies and Cache EVERY DAY, before we Start any Session - so do not have any 'Legacy Cookies' for less than 24 hours - let alone days or weeks ago - as you suggest.

On Firefox and Edge and Brave - I have the Settings set to - 'Clear Cookies on EXIT' - so None are ever stored from one day to the next - or one minute to the next, if I close the Browser during the day - and then re-open later (with absolutely Nothing stored - Cookies, Temporary Internet files or History).   

On Chrome and Vivaldi - I clear manually at the Start of each day - just in case I want to retrieve something from the day before - But Only the day before.

Reading through the thread, things to try are:-

Delete racingpost cookies (close the RP site first)
Clear browser cache (for all time, not just the last hour) (close the RP site first)
Disable browser extensions and ad blockers (if this fixes search, then reenable them and whitelist racingpost.com)
Make sure javascript is enabled
Try other browsers

If nothing at all works, it might be worth ruling out firewalls or even your ISP by using a friend's wifi or tethering to your phone.

Javascript is/was Enabled by Default - and there is No Javascript access/Option on Firefox and Edge - as, again, posted earlier.

Tried FIVE different Browsers - on Ethernet connection for Desktop Computer with loads of free RAM - via Virgin Cable with Topspeed Mbps

Same on my separate Tablet (fewer Browsers) via wifi connection.

Finally -

You are right that we should not have to jump through hoops to accommodate the Racing Post's lousy web design and lack of testing but back in the real world, we do. You could try talking to the Post's helpdesk if they still have such a thing.

Same as onlooker clear everything at the end of the day running C Cleaner and have done for about 18 years now. Would not want to clog up my laptop by never clearing anything.

I'm sorry some of you are still having problems.  I've got Javascript enabled on M Edge, it's under Cookies and Site Permissions - All Permissions..

Something else that's easy you might like to try..

Again under Cookies and Site Permissions on M Edge.. - Pop Ups and Redirects - these are normally set to 'Block', but I've had to 'Allow' the web address https://racingpost.com by using the 'add' option..
You might like to try that if not already done so..

I feel sure one of these 'settings' is the problem, it's finding which one..

I've tried this, it still hasn't worked for me, maybe others can try.

I think the search function is coming to life. I just got a 'the search function is currently undergoing maintenance' message, but it did respond when I typed in a name, without actually having to click the magnifying glass.

I only posted what worked for me.  Once all cookies from the beginning of time had been deleted (on chrome) it worked.  And the new search is much better than the old one:  Before you have finished typing the name, choices are displayed and articles for most likely guesses.  And it's all layed out nicely too.

onlooker, you say that you clear cookies on Chrome every day.  So if you were to clear your cookies just for the last 24 hours, there may be a few minutes of cookies that you missed, because you started a bit later.  These could have been sitting on your computer for years.  The only way to be sure is to clear the lot.  Have a look at the size of your cookies cache and this will be an indication of how much you have missed.

I'm no "techie" but I do everything I can (within my very limited knowledge) to avoid all cookies. Given the option I always accept only "Essential" cookies. It seems to me that to use the search function you now also need to accept "Functional" cookies.

Appreciate there may be other variants for other users - but accepting "Functional" cookies worked for me a few days ago and has worked ever since.

You can get the latest (very balanced) rehashed article on Affordability Checks by entering the word "intrusive" into the search engine - it saves you wading through all the other brilliant researched, investigative journalism!

FINALLY

The clue was in the bolded phrase. I had tried what they suggested and it still didn't work BUT today the penny dropped that despite 'clearing site data and cookies in settings and relaunching RP' there was likely some vestige of stored page data in 'browsing history'.

It would be too difficult to find all RP pages within history so I also had to clear all recent history. It meant having to re-do login data and settings for other sites. I accepted all cookies from RP and left adblockers and tracker preventions on to manage any cr4p.

SO WITHOUT THE EXPLANATION

1. HISTORY - Clear all browsing history
2. SETTINGS - again Clear all cookies
3. ADBLOCKER / TRACKER PREVENTION ON
4. Launch RP accepting all sh1t
5. Away it went
6. In the end the new design is dross and not just a drop down (at least on a PC)

That is because you cleared all cookies. The trick is to search for and then delete only the racingpost cookies.

On point 4, you only need to accept essential and functional cookies, although it is easier to accept all of them.
