Why did you try it?

I thought it would be similar to a bookmaker.I was wrong.

Low margins with the 10% bonus. Access to the HK markets. Is growing whilst Betfair Exchange is dying off. No Premium Charge. So interesting pools with guarentees. Only restriction is pool size.

surely its only the novices on racecourses doing lottery style bets and saying 'someone has to win' as they walk away after their £1 placepot

Their takeouts are horrendous. would never use them.

With the 10% bonus on win and place markets overround always under 110%. Usually a lot less.

One good reason is that if you are restricted by bookmakers you can get your bets on with the tote and are guaranteed at least SP and possibly bigger on a big priced horse.

Its not like it was when Fred run it.

Tote might still check punters for affordability and money-laundering but won't stop punters for winning too much (or at all).

Also as world pool expands it will open up more opportunities.

HK across the four main markets they turnover £12m-£20m a race. With the 10% bonus making the market sub 110% for 14 runners it is certaintly interesting.

Stewarts the Tote restrict accounts the same as any other bookie, a few on here have already found out.

Indeed winners are welcome, SP guarantee, £100K minimum Placepot everyday (all other UK meetings minimum £25K), £250K every Saturday, World Pool days there are often races betting to an 'underround'/less than 100%, Tote Fantasy offers smthg different/new and pots are growing all the time. Simply untrue that they restrict 'same as any other bookie' (why would they?)

What was the takeout under Fred for people who did not get special rebates?

Correct Sparrow they do ask for all sorts of ID as Slippyblue and others will confirm.

Frog, I am talking about the massive take out (27% ) on the Placepot, I have no Idea about win / place as I never use it, although its clear to see it is being manipulated / seeded.

Correct me if I am wrong, the Tote did offer a 10% bonus on the placepot if you used their Account,

this was clearly set up to suck in new faces, quel suprise the 10% has been halved to 5%.

Is it guaranteed in the place markets as well as I don’t seem to find any advertising on that ?

Also westberks as you seem well informed on the tote practice’s is it a policy to encourage staff on the racecourse to tell punters when asked the question do I get my money back on a non runner they sometimes reply yes you do with the tote but not other bookmakers?

Do they check affordability when you ask for a £500 win bet at the racecourse counters ?

Probably not Howard as the tote get an awful lot favourable treatment on racecourses

rightly or wrongly I do think cash betting should be policed entirely differently from electronic betting.

Why has the seeding money been taken out at Newbury today westberks? Just a clerical error?

When you talk above about the pools growing, Newbury today’s placepot with a pool of 47k shows punters don’t want to bet into a seeded pool, otherwise the pool would be 88k ish without the totes seeded money on a normal weekend meeting at newbury.

It just shows pools are actually shrinking. The tote need the world pool as punters over here aren’t interested in taking an SP return on every race plus betting against pro punters fleecing the pool by tote ambassadors, whereas the old tote would occasionally give you a decent return on a long shot or a horse over 10/1.

No doubt the new tote is run on a similar model to which is run at Chester bet. With basically punters only able to take an SP return on every race. That is also a horrible bet win and place with punters with no chance to make a margin on any race.

This is a disaster for the tote with now the only pools they are unable to fleece being the world pool

Out of interest what is take out on the fantasy bet?


No doubt with questions to answer you’ll crawl off under the nearest rock you can find westberks, along with a couple of others you’ve asked to pop on here and ask to sell the product.
