I can't believe how bad he is... can only win on the bridle.

Never backing any of his mounts again.

Nichols orses is rotten at the minute
Report 1st time poster February 16, 2023 3:19 PM GMT
nearly fell off broken halo on the run in Wink
Report sageform February 17, 2023 8:29 AM GMT
Horses so rotten that Nicholls leads the trainers champs by £450k and is over a £million ahead of Henderson whose form is mixed at best. From Nicholls' last 10 runners, 9 have been in the first 3 and 7 were first or second! There was a small hiatus after the annual flu jab as there always is but they are in great form now. I am not biting on Broken Halo. I thought that Jody Sole did well for a very occasional rider.
Report pandora1963 February 17, 2023 11:29 AM GMT
you would think nicholls could find a better jock though, with all these great horses, cobden is very weak on anything that needs a bit of pushing
Report sageform February 17, 2023 11:38 AM GMT
I donnt agree. What he lacks in a finish (if he does) he more than makes up for over the obstacles where he is different class from any other GB based rider. Paul Nicholls soon removes any stable jockey if they are not good enough. He is probably tearing his hair out whenever a Heskin ride gets beaten a neck. I would be.

Like STD?

Nothing wrong with Cobden imo,it does help when you're riding the best horses in the country,he'll be there as long as he wants as he appears to be part of the family down there and I guess the job was always going to be his when he came of age.
Report LoyalHoncho February 17, 2023 4:16 PM GMT
Rode a great race there on Flash Collonges, giving the horse every chance and beaten for a place in the very last stride!
Would AP in his heyday have carried the horse to a win?  I don;t know.
It is still infuriating when his get beat so late on in a race, however well they have run in the race itself - that;s the bottom line
Report sageform February 17, 2023 5:29 PM GMT
For some reason the horse put down at that last fence both times round but as he has been beaten twice before and wore cheekpieces, he is clearly not very brave. Harry saved every yard on the way round but the horse let him down imo. the market seemed to expect it although I was able to green out at 2 as they turned in. I would be very cautious about backing him again regardless of the rider.

totally agree sageform
Report LoyalHoncho February 17, 2023 5:53 PM GMT
So did I.  Laugh  I would happily back the horse again because he does what all chasers need to - jumps well.
Report high_lander March 15, 2023 5:30 PM GMT
I see he is clocking up the winners at Cheltenham Plain

Fell at the last when about to win Crazy
Report high_lander March 15, 2023 5:37 PM GMT
What a disaster in the bumper. Horse unbalanced all over the shop.. yet another shocker from Cobden.
Report strontium March 15, 2023 5:37 PM GMT
He'll get a few days off for that.
Report Denmanism March 15, 2023 5:39 PM GMT
That is a monster ;)
Report barstool March 15, 2023 5:47 PM GMT
Sometimes wish he would ride more on the inner instead of the wide route. Think Francombe said he is the best at presenting the horse to a fence. Cannot argue with that.
Report layemall March 15, 2023 5:52 PM GMT
Sam Twiston Davies and Daryl Jacob are both better riders than Harry Cobden will ever be.....but perhaps I'm bias as those two rejects are my two fav jump jockeys at the moment Wink
Report strontium March 15, 2023 7:19 PM GMT
Got 4 days for careless riding in the bumper.
Report Chadfan March 15, 2023 10:28 PM GMT
No comment from Honcho on Cobden's 4 day ban for careless riding then.
Might have been if Ms Frost was riding it I imagine.
Report kevo March 16, 2023 1:40 PM GMT
Good front running ride.
Report strontium March 16, 2023 1:44 PM GMT
Got the tactics spot on - front runners have a great record over C & D.
Report high_lander March 16, 2023 1:45 PM GMT
He was never seriously challenged. Like I said Cobden can only win on the bridle otherwise he's all over the shop, unbalanced, panics under pressure.
Report Ibrahima Sonko March 16, 2023 1:46 PM GMT
One of the best jumpers of a fence in a long time.
Report sageform March 16, 2023 1:48 PM GMT
Brilliant, my first anti post winner of the week at 16.5. Superb jumper and superb ride. I thought that the second might beat him at the second last.
Report Storm Alert March 16, 2023 1:49 PM GMT
Good old forum hex when a jockey is dissed. Laugh

Got a soft lead up and got the horse into a nice rhythm jumping well. Plenty left in the tank at the end of the race.
Report geoff m March 16, 2023 1:50 PM GMT
I think Davy was thinking they are only the brits in front.
Report high_lander March 16, 2023 1:54 PM GMT
Ibrahima, like yesterday when Thyme White fell 2 out while cantering. He showed superb jumping abilities there Laugh
Report sageform March 16, 2023 1:54 PM GMT
Possibly geoff, but he also got in a right muddle off the bend. Then he hung violently up the straight. Mighty Potter beat Adamantly Chosen who did not advertise the form yesterday.
Report high_lander March 16, 2023 1:55 PM GMT
Incredibly soft lead, it's almost like they let him win.
Report sageform March 16, 2023 1:56 PM GMT
Don't agree that Thyne White was cantering. Coming to the end of his tether I thought.
Report high_lander March 16, 2023 2:03 PM GMT
Paul Townend had a nightmare on Appreciate It... left it too much to do, held up last off a snails pace, hit the panic button, horse all over the place, unbalanced, terrible ride.
Report high_lander March 16, 2023 2:05 PM GMT
sageform...  Racing Post: F Thyme White  (FR) 28/1 Harry Cobden Took keen hold, towards rear of midfield, steady headway on outer 4 out, every chance and going easily when fell 2 out (op 22/1)
Report high_lander March 16, 2023 2:08 PM GMT
sageform, you must be trolling... Thyme White cantered into the lead at the last woulda won doing handstands.
Report kevo March 17, 2023 3:01 PM GMT
Another nice front running ride from Harry.
Report Denmanism March 17, 2023 3:06 PM GMT
haha, off to the poor house for high_lander :0
Report high_lander March 17, 2023 3:07 PM GMT
I can't fault this winning ride but it helps when you're on the best horse.

He often leaves his mount too much to do, he should stick to riding from the front.
Report sageform March 18, 2023 2:49 PM GMT
And 2 more valuable handicaps at Kempton. Perfect tactics on a course that gets like a bog in the straight after any rain. Shelling peas.
Report Angela Rebecchi March 18, 2023 2:52 PM GMT
Think my dead nan would have won on those 2 Laugh
Report high_lander March 18, 2023 11:59 PM GMT
Shelling peas... exactly as I said, can only win on the bridle. Thanks for helping me make my point Happy
Report high_lander March 19, 2023 12:04 AM GMT
Denmanism au contraire ...     last 5 seasons to a £1 level stake -291.96

Nice little tickle my son niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice little tickle Cool
Report sageform March 19, 2023 11:39 AM GMT
Harry Cobden wins a lot of races because he schools the horses at home getting them jumping on a long rein and settling. If he lacks a bit in a finish occasionally, that is trivial compared to the way the horses are prepared. It looks easy when they win comfortably but often a year of preparation lies behind it.
Report MJK March 19, 2023 12:11 PM GMT
For or against Cobden I nearly choked on my breakfast when I read a Post reporter this morning say that he's ' the nearest thing to Ruby Walsh that racing has'.
Report high_lander March 19, 2023 7:30 PM GMT
Mediocre. Horses are often unbalanced, too far behind, untidy, panic stations, windmill impression - arms and legs everywhere. Only wins on the bridle.
Report sageform March 20, 2023 10:17 AM GMT
So when you lay them, I will be backing them. Which jockey would you choose if you had to replace him? For me it would probably be Rex Dingle although he probably needs more experience at the top level. Currently on 18% wins and showing a small level stakes profit without a big retainer.
Report MJK March 20, 2023 11:42 AM GMT
^ when you look over the season at the ones Dingle should have won on and got beat that figure surprises me.
Report high_lander March 20, 2023 2:45 PM GMT
Clearly you are going to lose -291.66 for a £1 stake... good luck with that.
