Well said goagsy. She had to go as I alone advocated on here fully two weeks ago. It all went to her head as it seems to do with every female leader. Eventually they think they are Gods. Shame really because she had it all in her hands and has BLOWN IT! This police resigning and getting off with disciplinary was the final straw. Who now is the question?

Not at all but it was clear she had completely fcuked up on this bender bill and lost the faith of her delegates/team/support. No leader can carry on in a situation like that - all of her own making too, that's what's so stupid.

Also, is it not possible the 'transgender bill' she has been trying to introduce, and that has finally sunk her, was aimed at a group of voters to get her over the Independence threshold?

They let school kids vote up there? -- Yes. They get free coke and fried mars bars for voting. But they do have do buy their own straws to do the lines of coke.

I don;t think so brigust. Personally, and it is just my opinion, I think she saw it ( the GRR bill ) as her way to make history and be forever associated with it and remembered for her strength of character, by history. I honestly feel she has been so untouchable for a while now that it has gone to her head, and her judgement was warped and damaged. Who knows. She may have wind of all sorts coming up that would have damaged her. Only time will tell.

In February 2020, the Scottish Parliament passed a new law which extends the right to vote in Scottish elections to people who are over 16 and live in Scotland. This includes everyone with leave to remain, including people with refugee status.
See what I mean. Any way necessary.

SNP secured 50% of GE 2015 vote, 36.9% of GE 2017 vote and 45% of GE 2019 vote, none of which included the votes of 16-17 yos

Men and women fought in all wars ….life and limb….you don’t split a union who gave a life
Since conclusion of WW2, at least 65 countries have become Independent from the British Empire. Most of these countries provided significant numbers to the Allied Forces. Several of them had fatality/casualty rates far higher than those of the home nations. Yet they still chose the rights for self-determination...the clock is ticking

The big problem is Gordon, and it is the elephant in the independence room that no-one will actually address, but the English think they own us, and worse, think they have the right to own us.

Gordon, I know you are an avid SNP man delivering pamphlets through the door etc. However...
the people of Scotland are continuing to realise that their politics and their aspirations cannot and will never be, delivered by a Westminster government
If there's a shortage of money up here Gordon, who do the SNP go to cap in hand? Westminster.
We can't have it both ways.

LoyalHoncho, whilst I understand your position, my personal beacon is pro-Scotland..I lived/worked in England for many years, have many English friends (a few less since we've won the Calcutta Cup three times in a row!) and bear them no grudge, in fact I wish the English electorate could see that continuing to support the Unionist politics and policies and politicians from the Eton/Oxbridge elite will only cause further distress to all others as they seek to widen further the gap between rich and poor and for them even more importantly, between those having power and those without.

I notice with some surprise that nobody has mentioned the fact that the Scottish people voted to remain in the EU after the independence referendum and would that not make a difference to the future or is it irrelevant?

Stewarty I expected better!
The Scottish Government receives a FIXED budget (i.e. it is bound by law to stay within this budget unless as for example during covid, the budget was increased by Westminster, as it was for all devolved nations and even more so for England, well somebody had to pay for the PPE contracts handed to Tory supporters) to cover all devolved matters. How this budget is distributed amongst the devolved services is a matter for the Scottish Government, however there is no magic money tree and whereas with inflation (as a current example) Westminster can simply borrow more money to cover the lower purchasing value of the £, the devolved nations have to stay within their budgets, which in case of Scotland means the REAL spending power is £2bn less now than when it was passed originally.
Now in the medium and longer term economics, the renewable resources AND fresh water supply (which commodities will be much sought after in second half of 21st century) are taken into account AND more importantly managed for the benefit of the nation as a whole and NOT the shareholders/Establishment elite, then the real advantages of Independence will be realised.
If there was a vote in England ref breaking up the UK, I would unreservedly support those on here who would vote YES

It's not my position it is the deep-rooted, culture embedded, politician encouraged English position. And that i not to say I hate the English. Far from it. I very much respect many of the English but ask yourself what prevails in their thinking and there is only one answer. I am Scottish first - and always have been, and always will be - and British second. That doesn;t make me anti-English, that makes me pro-Scottish.

Sparrow, indeed this is an emotive issue here considering that ~63% of Scottish voters were in favour of remaining in EU. Generally, there is less of an anti-EU feeling than there is in England, perhaps for historical reasons e.g. alliances with France, shared ancestry etc but also, and perhaps more importantly, because there isn't the same sense of entitlement or superiority here as I've witnessed in England, although some of the landowners in the border areas fall very easily into this category, the current Secretary of State being a prime example.
Many of the electorate feel betrayed by the Tory/Labour 'better together' partnership whose mantra was the only means to ensure Scotland stayed in EU was to vote NO - but this is only a precursor to what threats, veiled and completely blatant e.g. leaders of major businesses saying they would pull resources/jobs from an Independent Scotland, will come ahead of the next de facto or Section 30 facilitated referendum

I don't think too many in Scotland are really that bothered about being in or out of Europe. Like everything else, when its in the media you get a reaction but something else soon takes the spotlight.

truehoncho, I'm fairly neutral on EU but being in the 'movement' I can say it does matter to a lot of people but then again the 'activists' are active because they strongly believe in something, nevertheless that 63% voted to Remain is significant because they're certainly not all activists

I agree to a point Gordon but I don't think it is enough of a sentiment to want out of the UK (at least at the moment). And yes Loyal there are certain groups that have suffered but not enough to effect sentiment throughout the country. Most of the problems Scotland face are similar to working class in England. We are far better sticking together to tackle those in Westminster than keep voting in a single issue party that divides the UK and allows westminter to conquer us all.

How do we stick together without a "single issue"? Get independence on the constitutional guarantee of said referendum that once achieved an open, general, Scottish election must follow. That can't be achieved by "division" trying to stick together. At least not in my view.

truehoncho, we tried that and we ended up with blair-brown, thankfully avoided corby (too left even for most of us here) and now starmer (who's more of a unionist than many Tories)...my own conviction for Independence was as strong during Blair as it was Thatcher, it's more gutteral than trying to improve the lot of the working class, and whilst I don't wish any ill will upon that group in England, the time is long overdue for us to get out of this s show...

And if you ask anyone who was put out of business by the Common Agricultural Policy while we were in the EU they might also say that the EU was the biggest problem in their lives. I am one of them. Scotland can have independence by all means but would the EU want them back in? Would the British insist on visas to cross the Scottish border? Would their currency be recognised in the rest of the UK? What duty would apply to Scottish Whisky in England? So many uncertainties that Ms Sturgeon ignored. We have seen how vindictive the EU has been to the UK for leaving. I'm sure that England could do the same to Scotland only better.

The only reason Sturgeon claims the Scots voted to remain in the EU in the referendum is because she never allowed a free vote. She told all SNP voters to vote against it, irrespective of their views. So her claims are bull.

I think its Independence for some no matter what the cost. I don't think it has legs anymore and my guess is Labour will take a few seats off the SNP at the next election and that will be the end of that.

Gave up on politics years ago, but thought she did a good enough job overall. The gender thing no doubt hastened her resignation and i had to a double take when she said she will stand behind new leader whoever he or she maybe - rather than they it shows how easy it is to trip up these days.

The row over the "missing" cash also promoted a rash of resignations by senior SNP MPs last year amid concerns about financial transparency.
Dunfermline and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman quit as national treasurer after complaining he had "not received the support of financial information" he needed.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh South West MP Joanna Cherry stood down from the party's ruling NEC over "transparency and scrutiny concerns".
Three more members resigned from the SNP's finance and audit committee, amid reports that SNP chief executive Peter Murrell had refused them permission to see the party's accounts.
Mr Murrell is married to Ms Sturgeon and some supporters fear the power couple at the top of the party have been allowed far too much control.
David Henry, former organiser for the SNP's Edinburgh Pentlands branch, said: “I think there is more than enough evidence that shows the money raised in 2017 which was advertised as ring-fenced for the sole purpose of delivering an IndyRef2 is nowhere to be found.

onlooker - as someone who regularly audits the accounts of other branches (as the protocol requires), I've been very concerned about the late filing of party accounts and the events in your email and whilst I don't like the practice one little bit the £600k (which was donated by members specifically for an Independence campaign) was distributed elsewhere although the Party bigwigs assured us that it could still be provided as and when necessary.
In some ways similar to the £20m which was rightfully set aside by the Scottish Government for an Independence Referendum (but when the supreme court and various Unionist PMs ignored the mandate for said referendum) this money was assigned to addressing the 'cost of living crisis' which in no small part had been exacerbated by those very same Unionist PMs, as verified by Bank of England and other financial bodies - Liz Truss and her tax cut fiasco, cost every household in the home nations a £1k at least

I couldn't stand the woman. She wanted Independence but couldn't stop slagging off her neighbour and biggest trading partner. If wanted to work toward something with your neighbours would you expect to get it if you mercilessly slagged them off?
