I understand why I never returned last week at leopardstown,if your associated with virgin then I see why you underpriced horses ( I beg your pardon if you have the same view as me)as I had an account but odds were always shorter then live and didn't see the point in keeping it even though I can't get on with anyone except here but that's never been my style.
If you look back I'm the guy that had £200 GDC in punchestown 3/1 once declared in the 3m G1 Nov hurdle won 13/8 but the aftermath of safe gambling emails and deposits limits I just had to close so give yourself a pat on the back you didn't close me I closed you which is a 1st.

Excellent post and good to know that the ring is still alive and well at Exeter. It is a course I like and used to go a lot but these days, it is either a weather doubt or some other reason that stops me and I would not go near a racecourse on a Sunday with a big crowd.

Bentring - I'm nothing to do with Virginbet, they sponsored and I always include the race titles to include the sponsors because they have supported the race - I can't get a bet on with them either and I'm a £15 punter. Ronnie Rails, I'm sure some hedge but very few would have it all back, the guys that laid those bets lost on the races. The 'Green Up' thing is not as widespread as people like to make out. Jimnast, impossible to do on course.

The good thing about the blog is that it shows that bookies dont win every day, so if you have a bad day laying on here, dont let it put you off.

I've often wondered, and Simon can (probably?) answer this, how is a profitable day calculated? I have no wish to intrude or have you reveal industry secrets, but am merely curious. 

Is each betting day regarded as a simple P and L just based on betting turnover, with all sunk costs added in later to the bigger weekly, monthly, yearly picture? OR does the daily profit statement include a base daily overhead (pitch, staff, travel, tech. etc) cost that has to be covered to produce/report a "profitable" or otherwise day?.

The latter Blackburn, all ex’s taken into account before the days result is known.

The cost of a pitch for a day must be quite significant if you include travel, wages if you have staff, etc. I can remember way back when some people I knew could rent a pitch for a day for £50 from whoever had the pitch. That was when the old system of allocating pitches by seniority was in place of course. Some of the older bookies were happy to take a fixed fee rather than take the risk of making a book. Not sure it was within the rules mind.

Definitely not in the rules Sageform! but yes plenty went on.Wetherby today betting badge £125 entrance for staff £19,computer support on course (only about 60 % have this now as others on another system where costs are less) £25.
