THE SPREADEX SPORTS BEST PREMIER LEAGUE ODDS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for MINTNTTHAT to go early to post. An enquiry was held into the running and riding of SHOWMEDEMONEY (IRE), ridden by Poppy Wilson and trained by Iain Jardine, which was held up at the back of the field until being asked for an effort inside the 1 ½ furlongs to finish fifth beaten 8 lengths. The rider and the representative of Jardine were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that her instructions were to settle the gelding towards the rear of the field before improving her position from 3 furlongs out. Wilson explained that she had found herself more detached than she had intended and in hindsight, that due to the slow early pace, she should have taken closer order and improved her position much sooner and had given SHOWMEDEMONEY (IRE) too much to do from 2 ½ furlongs out. The Representative of Jardine confirmed the instructions, and added that they were disappointed by the ride, adding that the rider had given SHOWMEDEMONEY (IRE) too much to do off a slow early pace due to the rider’s inexperience. Wilson was suspended for 10 days for asking for an effort too late as a result of a serious misjudgement. Following the race Paul Mulrennan reported that UMNEYATT (IRE), unplaced, weakened quickly inside the final 1 ½ furlongs. |

FFS they have made her the target and ignored the worst culprit in Sam James,alongside her having been switched across the track at the start,she should appeal and point out the others who fukced up in a stinking race?

Imo, they should have held a R + R enq into the horse's run at the track on the 12th January

she deserved her penalty no doubt about it...
but it's typical of stewards picking on a 7lb lassie... meanwhile ignoring other rides at that track over the last few weeks from experienced / journeymen jockeys... the BHA needs to have a close look at that Newcastle Stewards Room if you ask me... far too many instances of them looking the other way for my liking. |

Sam James could easily have gone up the rail but decided to do a sharp left and lose loads of ground in the process... nowhere near as bad as what Poppy did imv... doubt they could ban Sam James on that ride tbh... the whole race looked very smelly to me... strung out like yesterdays washing from an early stage despite them not appearing to go that quick early doors... the 'gambled on' Mulrennan horse weakening very quickly... the winner was given a fair few cracks to make sure... wouldn't surprise me if THEY collected big time there. |

again looked a pretty sedate gallop to me... yet she had it about 2-3 lengths off the pace... last night she must have had it about 20 lengths off the pace... awful. |

When she gets more experience she will tell the stewards that the horse hung/left or right or didn't pick up as expected or etc. The stewards will note the explanation and tell her to go about her business. |

amazing how the journeymen jockeys have their explanation noted time and time again... if the stewards even bother to ask them the Q in the first place that is. which is pretty rare imv... both sides of the Irish Sea. |
