Hugh "MAN MADE OF SMOKE is a longstanding maiden, but he looks a typical David Evans inmate in that he’s not only holding his form but probably progressing, despite a busy schedule, and he might be able to get off the mark in the second division of the 3yo handicap (6.00).
He made his debut last April and has yet to score in 15 runs, but he produced what was probably a career-best effort switched to forcing tactics at Wolverhampton last time, and he would probably have broken his duck had it not been for Billy Loughnane’s 7lb claim on the winner. He’s already beaten today’s rival Little Roman in a race where the latter also benefited from Loughnane’s claim, and Man Made Of Smoke is 3lb better off here. Handicap debutant Perfect Gentleman is of obvious interest up in trip following a break, but it won’t have taken much money to cause the crash in his odds yesterday and he is taking out a fair chunk of the market now. Man Made Of Smoke is clearly vulnerable if there is an improver in the line-up, but he sets the standard here on the clock and might be hard to peg back." |
