Has a habit of saying things that aren't happening in an attempt to make the mundane seem exciting.'Can he hold on ? when the horse is winning in a canter. Also they land together when one horse is about 2 lengths in front.

Thommo's commentaries are beyond parody.Just listened to the Newcastle 2.25...comic gold! The buffoon should have been given his marching orders 30 years ago!

Met him at a labdrokes day, a lovely bloke with
a lot of punters that turned up to meet him. Dreadful commentator. |

Remember a race where he was shouting about how the favourite had fallen, blustering away, then realised it wasn't the favourite that had fallen...

Thommo's lifetime achievement is suçessfully avoiding being detained at Her Majesty's Pleasure! We "left that one to the judge" but still the fraudster pollutes the airwaves, thankfully not as profitably as previously!

This post comes to mind:
My favourite Tommo story, from Mathew Norman’s book: Channel 4 Racing stalwart John Tyrrel was Norman's father-in-law and died in Newmarket in 1995: "When he died...Tommo raced to the house to offer condolences, and to beg JT's widow to delay the funeral for more than a week, until the first day on which he could be certain to attend. This, at some inconvenience, she duly did. The mystery of Tommo's non-appearance at the church was not resolved until hours after the service, when my brother-in-law and I chose to pay our most private respects by spending an hour in a bookmaker's in Newmarket High Street. Any plans to make a missing person's report and ask the police to put out an All Points Bulletin for a Caucasian male, about forty-five years old, with an infuriating smirk were happily forestalled when a familiar voice drifted out of the speakers. Tommo, having demanded the postponement of the funeral to a time convenient to himself had waged a fierce internal battle and then decided to earn a few bob from commentating on behalf of the bookies' satellite service SIS at an exceedingly minor meeting at Uttoxeter.” |
