Rico, the jockey stats' boys can help you out here, if you ask them nicely.

They'll have a pretty good handle on where e stands in comparison to other jockeys eg actual / expected, Whitley Ratings, etc.

The 'he's just ridden a winner so he must be good...stands to reason dunnit' talk belongs back in the 1980s with the blokes 'watching' races on the tannoy.

How does A/E really work with jockey stats? If he's perceived to be above average he will be over bet and the A/E will come down.

Hugh Taylor sometimes uses A/E figures as part of his case when making a selection.

How did McCoy come out on such ratings? Poorly i'd imagine and yet not many doubt he was the best rider of his generation.

Hugh Taylor and Tom Segal have a broad knowledge of the form book, they do a rough tissue and then construct their case around any obvious price ricks.

Fair enough if you're talking about the elite jockeys such as Ryan Moore and Dettori, and the fact their mounts can be overbet can be factored in, but otherwise I don't see why the A/E can't be a good guide.

But the point is, it's a much better way of assessing a jockey's ability than saying, look, he's just ridden a winner so he must be a good jockey. Where are his knockers now?

Ok. It's not really a stat that would ever affect my betting. On moderate horses I always hope most journeyman jockeys cannot be enough of a hindrance to compromise its chance.

you will never win a jockey title riding a 10/1 shot every race..

if you win on 1 out of 11 10-1 shots are you really a better jockey than one who wins on only 4/10 even money shots?

take any winner any day...pick 20 random jockeys..imo 19 will still win.

I'm in that camp, especially if they're there to win.

It's no coincidence that half of their horses appear to be nutjobs, it's because they sense he's hopeless and therefore spend half the race trying to get rid of him.

Very unbalanced over a hurdle like Brennan….Morris on the flat always looks uncomfortable….I reckon he’s in for a lot of holidays in the coming months regarding the whip..

But the horses are in such amazing form that they keep winning. 6 winners in 4 days. If Houlihan rode them all it might have been 8!

Danny Burton (5) did well there, probably unseen.  At work at least 12f out and never stopped working to come from behind to get close up late on.
Keeps trying.  Wouldn't be scared to have a few quid on one of his that has attracted support.
