One of the busiest days racing in Ireland and trying to get out of the car park could be torture , sadly for me this is a card that has dropped down in grade over the years, mainly due to the rise of the DRF. I remember as a young looking forward for months to this card not anymore I might add. Anyway lets see if we can find a winner or two . The big race is interesting as I think we could see the winner of the National in Escaria Ten who went into my notebook as the winner of it after his brilliant run at Fairyhouse. I honestly can't see him winning tomorrow but a few i like are as follows..
Espanito Bello not badly weighted and set out for this 8/1 . Fakiera is another who really caught my eye recently at Fairyhouse 14/1 I shall back both e/w.
My main bets on the card are 3.55. Slane Hill who impressed me with his attitude at Naas 10/30 and the runner up should have won the other day . Ankud 1/1 was another who caught my eye at Naas pulled for most of the trip yet finished really well .
Heading down more in hope than anything else but determined to enjoy the food racing and the craic...

Agree with you there workrider the race has lost alot of it's former glory, went there a few times in the past, but not anymore. It used to have a really good winners bumper as well which was a huge betting race seems to be gone now too. 'Darrens Hope' is meant to be fancied but the tip is in its name. It has a lightweight and a decent man on its back. I will stick with Southwell

I think you might be getting Captain mixed up with his King George win around that time....I was in Kempton when Pendil beat The Dickler around 1973/74 in fact I nearly knocked the poor old Queen Mother over that day..

I picked out Punitive earlier in the week so sticking with him especially now he’s drifted right out…not worried about that because it’s to do with everyone tipping up Carefully Selected.
Really like the way Punitive picked up last time in the Porterstown…you’re not supposed to have gears like that so late in a marathon contest. Elliot earmarked this race straight after and sidestepped the Warwick Chase to wait for it so reckon he’s got him spot on again today. I know he’s dropping in trip but this race can turn into a right ol slog so it should be manageable. |

Good story, workrider. I think I got my teenage heart broken Boxing Day '75 when the Captain beat my favourite racehorse of all time, Bula. Think he beat him by around 25 lengths or so. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me. Can I ask you, workrider, should things go wrong today with Sir Gerhard, can you see him being routed to the Stayers hurdle? Just think it's late for a novice chaser to appear. On the other hand, he might well be brilliant.

I saw Captain Christy run in a hurdle race at Baldoyle 1971. The then owner/trainer Major Pidcock rode him. Baldoyle closed shortly afterwards.

The photo is on my FB lol As for the Arsenal I fancy a cheeky double here….if we can just keep winning then the last 8 games will be nothing more than a victory lap so a good opportunity to focus just on Europa League. Still have to play City twice but they need to win…we don’t. Got them tomorrow night in the FA Cup but I’m happy to sacrifice this for more important things. Personally I’d rest everyone lol and play a complete B Team. |

all1959, Willie is a law onto himself trying to out guess him is futile , wait and see is my motto with him he has to many options with his horses .You are correct re Bula v Christy . Mrcombustible Baldoyle was my fav track and I walked it recently as there is still parts of the course untouched trying to bring back some brilliant memories of my youth. As a aside MFrank and myself started the course in the I.N.S.52 years ago last week . God rest his soul..Right off to Gowran ,and East keep that photo safe...

It was great to see arsenal and united putting up such a fantastic game on Sunday it went the wrong for me but reminded me of the happy years when the two went toe to toe ,incredible improvement shown by both this season long my it continue.

Enjoy your day workrider hope you can find a few winners, i was thinking having read something on Andrews thread that you could write a really interesting book about your journeys through Ireland and England, the racecourses, the towns, the craic etc, the ups and downs of your punting life etc, not many punters will have travelled as extensively as you around both countries.

Well lads a day that started poorly ended up a good one in the end though pure luck played a huge hand. Missed the first due to huge crowds and getting in was manic. It took nearly 35 mins to travel about a mile . Anyway way here's the story . Backed both my fancies even though Fakeira looked a little worse for wear in the paddock , I think Bello was really unlucky, I think he finished lame as they walked him back from the finish jockey carrying the saddle . Backed Slane and to be honest rider did really well to get him into the frame so won a tiny amount as I think I got 6.6 on here . As I was heading to the paddock for the last a old friend called me and asked what did I think,I told him I fancied the fav , he whispered have a few quid on Cooper's in this . I had 50 e/w at 7.4 on here
 returned a much bigger price so as I said a poor start but a nice end to the day.. |

Come racing they say for what ? Another 2/9 shot or shorter pay in pay for your race card pay exorbitant price for a cuppa tae or sambo or a soup with a wooden spoon. National Hunt racing is going downhill more each passing year. short priced horses every day in far too many races. No opposition to the big yard/yards. Roll on the flat racing.
