Just wondering anyone near either of these tracks have a weather update, a few of us are flying into Birmingham on Sat and depending on the plane landing on time its either Cheltenham or Uttox, both in or around the same time drive wise so just wondering if someone near had any advice about them been called off.
They keep saying it is going to get warmer but apart from West Wales and Scotland it is getting colder! I am 25 miles from Wincanton and nearer the coast but it was -8C here this morning! Coldest for a very long time.

I'm two or three miles west of Taunton, and the ground is like iron. I've got some heavily mulched carrots, and I just went out with a trowel and a hammer to pick a couple to have with my dinner. No chance. Couldn't even chip the soil. It seems as though the further south-west you go, the deeper the freeze has become. Cheltenham could be touch and go with an 11.40 start.
On the plus side, I've managed to chop up some elm logs that looked impossible to split. They simply fell apart thanks to the moisture being so frozen.

workrider, as others have said, for some reason recently the forecasters keep saying it is going to get warmer but it hasn't, there's been a hard frost here every day lately and I'm in the South West rainbelt where it is usually first to warm up but no sign of that yet. Fingers crossed for you but woulda left booking a flight as late as possible.

Warmer today but warm enough? Not sure. Suspect we need temperatures as predicted (in places) over next couple of days to have a realistic chance.

screaming I’m on the extreme border of urban! The grass in the fields looking east are perfectly green & the thermometer on my garden shed reads 7 Celsius. Admittedly I have not ventured into the fields to test the texture. I appreciate your point is totally valid! All the best.

It's all green here in Somerset today, saxon, but if you walk in the fields it's just a thin layer of mud beneath the grass, and several inches of frozen ground beneath that.
Then again, the West Country is not the West Midlands, so you may well have a point!

Jon Pullin, Clerk of the Course said on Friday: “Temperatures remained positive overnight, and the ground has continued to thaw with the racing line now free from frost. The Going is currently Soft, Good to Soft in places on the New Course and Good to Soft, Soft in places on the Cross Country Course.
"Frost covers will be deployed today on the New Course in order to protect the ground from tonight’s forecast where temperatures could drop to -2c, therefore there will be a further Precautionary Inspection at 7:30am tomorrow (Saturday January 28).
"Due to significant improvements on course, the contingency plans to restage the raceday on Sunday are no longer in place".

hi workrider - hope you had a safe trip over and a successful day.
I had 3 winners, Il Ridotto (very good ride from Cobden and I don't say that often...), Ahoy Senor (great to see the Scottish horse show what he can do although place probably best in GC unless Galopin shows he doesn't get 3miles at DRF in which case it's completely open) and Rock My Way (which stuck on well and paid huge compliment to Weveallbeencaught - really hope he goes to DRF as I'll get the big notes out! - and also It's For Me). In the other races, QMCC looks wide open after today, I just haven't got on the Edwardstone train, Comfort Zone was a massive plus for Lossiemouth and I don't buy this Scriptwriter would have won if it had came later, and Delta Work will be strong favourite for XC.
Now let's see what Willie does next weekend!!

Hi Gordon , just home went to Uttox and had a dire day , backed second and third winners and ended up losing £700 don't ask how. I was on the plane with Willie for the 3nd time in 2 months I'm sure he must think we are a jinx. Had word for one of Nicholls up at Donny finished 2nd then had £200 on Atonomus Cloud @ 3/1 who managed to get beaten by a stable mate having lead the whole way till near the line..Will try and get it back tomorrow at Naas . Looking forward to meeting you next week take care ..
