first race kempton last night. Slow overall time compared with 68 rated h'capper later. Put a number on where he will be later this year NOW. Don't wait for more form/times. Got to be listed + for me. Highly likely group horse.

Well bred, bought for 55,000gns as a yearling, but wait for it, sold for just 12,000 gns at Newmarket last August.
So why was he re-sold cheaply unraced as a 2YO, albeit now owned by relatively high profile owners (was owned by Saeed Suhail)?
Judging from the tv pictures last night, he towered over the opposition, and I wondered if he was going to prove a big, slow old boat, but he was well backed and evidently has an engine.
It probably wasn't a great race, the two favs might have got racing against each other soon enough, and as you say, the time was slow.
He has to prove he can do it on turf.
As for what rating, well the fourth horse last night is rated 79, so given he was visually impressive, the assessor could already rate him in the high-80s at least.
I'm not sitting on the fence here but I think more evidence is needed, for all it could be the new owners have got themselves one helluva bargain.

Just had a look, he was already in training with the Johnstons when he was sent to the HIT sales and they bought him back. It then took them another 5 months to get him to the track.
Maybe he was so big and weak as a 2YO that he wasn't showing anything at that point.

I think so George. He's progressed very quick since. Don't think they are bothered about h'cap mark. Would probably have run somewhere up North if that had been the case. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in Dante. Stayers have won it or gone well. Classic Cliche anyway !
The assessor didn't get carried away, an initial rating of 86 for French Invasion, who makes his handicap debut in the 6.30.
Tough test for him tonight imo, I'm not so sure that mark isn't a bit high for what it has achieved, might be wrong though and it's a stable I very rarely get right.
Yes, dealer, a trappy little affair. Hugh Taylor tipped the 'rag' Corsican Caper lto when the pace scenario probably didn't suit, but higher grade this evening and he hasn't kept the faith. So not sure any of them can be ruled out.
It is a really open race, mighty rivers form is pretty solid imo, looking forward to see how the Johnston horse runs
