Interesting piece, particularly where she says she rode the horse three times to get a handicap mark. But the stewards don't see any of this of course.

But this can apply to male jockeys too. There will be "in-house" jocks used to get a horse a mark, and when the day comes, another jockey may be used.
A certain NH yard, for example, noted for landing gambles. Get a mark and when the day came, McCoy would be up and the horse would be evens. Or I can give an actual high profile example last year of where a male jockey was jocked off after winning twice on a horse only to be replaced on it in a big race by a "perceived" (and to be fair I think he is ranked number 1 in the world) better jockey. Ben Curtis won twice on Mind The Cut, he was replaced at Royal Ascot by James McDonald. Have male jockeys ever been replaced by Hollie Doyle? Yes. It's an old cliche, but owners pay the bills and they should be free to employ who they want on their horses. |

My point re stewards referred to all jockeys and trainers, not just females. We see it all the time and so do the stewards.
