Bloke who works in a restaurant is set to receive a package containing drugs concealed in a box of vinegar bottles.  On the very same lunchtime, there are several police officers at a retirement celebration.  Not only that, the owners have made a special exception to allow them to bring in a sniffer dog because he's also retiring!

You couldn't make it up. Plain

They seem to have taken the Gordon Brown route on their racism storyline. All migrants are good, all those who don't like immgration are bigots. Didn't work too well for Godger.

It's been dreadful for several years, and amazingly it's still managing to get worse. Ticking boxes, preaching to the viewer, it's become a laughing stock. I am surprised they haven't signed up Luke Harvey.

You couldn't make it up.

But thats exactly what the scriptwriters did. !    Joking apart though, why anyone would half believe these stories is beyond me.
No one in the entire cast of characters has an identical first name….how odd is that ? I know several Steves , Tonys, Daves  even 2 Gregs !
Everyone on the street has a car but no one parks outside their terraced house ! Sheffield where I live isn't really like that !  They all get to have lunch in the pub, even the local headteacher. People get lifelong diseases , David Platt was an epileptic , but only for short periods. If you have sex once with someone you shouldn't you always get pregnant. Police interview people in the pub.
They also get to see a Doctor straight away but that's another story! Grin

...and if there's a poker game, it will always end up with one player responding to a £50 bet by suddenly whipping out a wad of notes from his jacket and raising a grand and the other throwing in the keys to his car or house.

Platty tried to kill his brother in a head on car smash , a few years before that he drove into the canal to drown his evil stepdad, yet he still gets insurance and turns up driving quite regularly !

It's all been downhill since they replaced Barlow's Bookies with a Florists.

Really cannot understand how some of the storylines are shown before 9pm. What has happened to the watershed?

I haven’t watched any of them for at least ten years. Used to watch them religiously if I was home.

I remember Fat Barry having a race against someone in Eastenders. Someone from The Queen Vic was running a book and priced it as 10/1 Barry and 2/1 for the other person!

Like most of these soap operas they're aimed at the younger generation now, drug gangs, racism, murders etc, how many murderers are still living in the street, amazing the police never catch them. Absolute waste of time now, you can watch the program from about 25 years ago on one of the itv channels in the afternoon, much better and much more fun.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Sinclair_(hotel_owner)

In May 1970, the cast of Monty Python's Flying Circus met the Sinclairs while staying at the Gleneagles Hotel (Torquay); they were filming in nearby Paignton. Sinclair was reluctant to let them stay, but his wife argued in favour of them as their three-week stay in the hotel represented a considerable amount of business during the hotel's off-season.[12] Sinclair's actions included criticising American Terry Gilliam's table etiquette and throwing Eric Idle's briefcase out of a window because he thought it contained a bomb. The cast, with the exception of John Cleese and his wife Connie Booth, left the hotel for other accommodation.[13] Cleese later used Sinclair's mannerisms as an inspiration for Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers.[14] The Gleneagles Hotel is referenced in the show's second episode, "The Builders".
