So it can't have been just getting tired then? As I said it may never win again and I wouldn't be backing it but I think it's unfair to label the horse as some have done. Plenty of horses never win a race, it doesn't mean they're all dogs.
Amazing how differently people can view exactly the same race. Guess that's the beauty of this game.
I think the evidence is there if you watch many of its runs. 100% many just aren't good enough but game and straightforward but imo this one isn't.
You think it might have been tiring, I think it was stopping for other reasons. If everyone had the same opinion it would be a fairly boring life.

And that's not saying it shouldn't have won last time
If a 6 furlong horse runs much faster than it is used to over 5f how do expect them to be finishing their race?
No bad intention to the punters who backed it….but I was hoping for it to be nailed on the line…just to give them a taste of sourness…..

Yeah, it had so much in hand yet could only scrape home. What does it matter what tactics were used if it had so much in hand? Just stick to the In Running and posting huge long odds on pokes. I remember the last one you posted!

Swad was so confident...he went place only.
It saw a hell of a lot of daylight and still won. With a bit more restraint next time out it will win hard held.
I got the heads up to back it today but was not worried about the drift as it should of been 2-1 anyway.I was more worried if it got pulled again but just had half stakes on just in case.

Saw daylight practically the whole way and was brought under pressure fully a furlong and a half out, plenty far enough out for the horse to throw the towel in if it was so inclined....but still won.

im not covinced it was there today to win..hence the drift...its never ridden close up ever..its a bridle ponce with a burst..if it was kept for a 16 runner low grade sprint and held up,covered up and ridden with balls it would off 52 won on the snaff..nothing went right today,bounced out..close up seeing plenty daylight..she hit front too early but got away with it.

There is an interview with Alastair Down on YouTube on #BettingPeople's channel.
In that interview, Down talks about a horse he part-owned, trained by Sir Mark Prescott. It's interesting in the context of KRAKEN POWER, since AD says that the particular horse in question was trained - and ridden - with the intention of pulling off a 'two-timer', i.e. to win two on-the-spin in a matter of days.
The problem with that was that it meant actively stopping - there's no other word for it - the horse from achieving its best placing on its previous runs before the plotted races, which strictly speaking is against the rules of racing.
Revealingly, Down prefaces his comments with, 'I think I'm allowed to say this', and then talks about how the horse, 'got lost, running up a sequence of noughts' [my italics].
On the day the was plotted to win, it was beaten at Leicester by a horse of Mick Easterby's that he'd been stopping ! But, entered up the very next day, it duly obliged.
'Clearly, the plan had been to win two in 24 hours'.

The bit in question is just two to three minutes of the third part of the complete interview, beginning around 1:22, ending at 3:39.
The moral of that story is don't go on a podcast after you've had 2 bottles of red.

The irony of this is that I actually watched the whole interview hoping to learn something which might help to give me a 'deeper' understanding of racing, with a view to making better bets going forward.

When Mulrennan wins tomorrow night he will have his excuses ready,get ready with the tissues.
One thing Pulrennan cannot afford to do is hold this horse up. If he were to get blocked or the horse ran below par then he will be accused of pulling it twice. In my opinion he will lead and win or not he can say it was a fully trying effort of his.

To me the whole incident is not about the horse. A derby winner couldnt have won with the ride Mulrennan gave it last week. Shameful.

Interesting scenario in general today at Newcastle. A lot of bad 'press' regarding this jockey and the track in general on this and other racing mb's. It wouldn't be the biggest shock if miraculously all or majority of shorties/favs won there today. I'll check in this evening to see.

Unless KP is on the bridle,regardless of held up or prominent it will likely lose if it becomes a test of endurance between him and Mehmo,Nellie French is as good as KP,probably better and similarly needs luck in the run but 5/4 V 16s is no contest ew imo,KP best left to desperados whether win or lay!!

Did well to win given slow run race and lots of daylight again. Mulrennan kept looking across for some cover but never really got it. Tried to dog it at the death.

Can't knock anything about tonight's performance, saw it out well to the line.
one thing the dodge ride has shown us all is that the racing media and broadcast will round the wagons and look after themselves and their jobs rather than tell it as it is.
seb sanders looked at that ride yesterday, you could tell exactly what he thought of it, but because he wants to keep the sky gig all he could say was having watched that he was surprised it wasn't under 2/1 to win the race.

Went out in running yesterday pretty big I'm having a snifty port probably like Stewards if you get my drift I'm happy track as I said earlier runs like a flapper been lucky if tonight wasn't the night never was going to be one.

It ran a very good race given the amount of daylight it saw.
I was one swifty and on present form, for whatever reason it certainly can't be called that.

Going purely on the numbers (which I rather lazily am usually happy to do), he doesn't quite qualify as a dodge-pot by my numerical definitions. Against a backdrop of 3 lifetime wins, he has been beaten at 1.07, 1.33, 1.80 and 1.51. However one of the wins and the 1.07 (beaten) were too early in his lifetime profile to include in my numbers.
For the folk that are less lazy than me, If you combine just the pure qualifying numbers (above) with visual impressions, I'd say he was a dodge-pot - but might not be any more.
Interesting that Jardine had a few goes with cheek-pieces (made no difference imo) before he went Goldie - and that Goldie hasn't resorted to any headgear despite it looking to be worth a try (imo).

TM, I wasn't singling out you , the general consensus when a horse has such a poor strike rate is that he must be a dodgepot. In this horse's case he was handicapped to the hilt as a 2yo, ran plenty of solid races as a 3yo without winning, then was swithced to Goldie and has been oddly campaigned ever since , dropping around 25lbs in the 'process'. He has been close to winning 5 of his last 7 runs off the lower marks and has barely run a bad race at Newcastle this winter over 5f and 6f. That run yesterday , he settled better than ever and finished very strongly from a bad track position. Hopefully he can transfer this form back to turf (6f will suit better, maybe with a headgear try again but kept in the back pocket for now!)
* and in higher grade with a faster gallop I think he could well be up to winning in the high 60s or higher.

That's the nature of the game I guess, trying to find the horse that has really gone sour to oppose and to identify the freshly sweetened up one who starts their new life, usually off 30lbs lower for a new stable!

Yes - his excellent 2yo campaign has pretty much guaranteed that his 3yo campaign would be a pattern of disappointment imo - and then (later on) obviously there's a big difference between a mark in the mid 80's and a mark in the low 50's. GL.
Running again tonight 20.00 Newcastle -Mulrennan on board -about 7/4 .Timeform verdict "KRAKEN POWER has started 2023 in fine style and can race off the same mark as when an excellent second here on Monday so is fancied to bag a third C&D success"
I agree with Management's assessment - just looked back - in Sept 21 it stepped up from 5f to 2m - WTF??!!! - I've never seen that before :D .... surprisingly finished last ;)
Mulrennan can get it beat if he wants to,usual tactics ,slow away,find a horse to get interference,but today I reckon it will win
