Just interviewing the son,a chip of the old block Grin

His other younger Son - the Winning jockey Phillip Byrnes - seemed to nearly threw away today's success when he got in a bit of a tangle with whip the reins in the last 80 yards or so. (from viewing the Head-On)

When I saw it in real-time (side-on) I thought  ...

What is he doing with his whip in the air, not riding out, but not celebrating either - when the second horse was closing strongly to force a very close Photo-Finish

Use the Slider to fast forward to - 5min 0s - for the final flight to the Finish.

I wonder how many long-running inquiries will be sparked by the seller at Taunton tomorrow.

It's a shame they don't keep their rotten filth the other side of the water.

Only one trainer in that lot I would trust and I'll probably be wrong with that.

The BHA do not have any inquiries they run such a tight ship were everything is all above board.Every horse is a trier and every horse gets a mark no matter what.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6DOGITIfAY

The best thing about this Taunton seller is who was still training the Gordon Elliott runner as late as this summer.

I wonder whether Elliott actually knows that he's sent one horse all the way to Taunton for this seller tomorrow.

Grozni, very lucky to win imo. If Tom O Brien had changed the whip over a second earlier it would have been a different result I strongly think.

If so many posters on here don't trust trainers or jockeys, why doe they persist in even watching racing, never mind betting on it? If it was as simple as finding the fastest horse running in lanes on a straight course the winner would be 1/20 in many races. If you want value, then look for angles and that includes which trainers are likely to be tuning up a horse for a future race. An ex jockey friend once told me that any jockey who threw a race in such a way that the Stewards noticed should be suspended for incompetence as well as for not trying. So many ways to do it without breaking any rules and if you are alert as a watcher, you can note them for next time as many do. By far the most common ones are to go too fast too soon or go round a bend 5 off the rail. Having said that, most of them are trying their best if good enough.

Poseidon is owned by Elliott's travelling head girl, Camilla Sharples. She has it registered with the Westmeath Hunt. She also buys and sells horses. She's at Cheltenham right now, so Poseidon has presumably come over with some Cheltenham horses.

Poseidon beat The Jam Man in a flat race a couple of years ago - the latter got half a page of text to explain his run.
Report ged December 8, 2022 10:23 AM GMT
Camilla sold Andy Dufresne in 2018, for £330,000, so she's probably not struggling.

Some great explanations by Mr. McNally on that piece of form - brilliant - trainers should follow the Jenny Pitman route and write books later - I remember she was notoriously "unpredictable" too .... great game :D ... sport of kings ;)

re: POSEIDON

When trained by Charles BYRNES - and Won a Grade B Chase at Cork - just over 12 months ago - at 7/2 - off a rating of 130 ...

I bet - Byrnes never expected to come up against the same POSEIDON in a Taunton Selling Hurdle - just over a year later. Happy

"He informed the Stewards that he had secured a powder remedy in Cork about three weeks ago ..." Grin

Wajaaha looked lame to me after the race today, which would explain why it found nothing. (If it's not lame, I would be grateful if the Byrnes family didn't sue - just my opinion).

Thanks as always to ged for filling in the blanks. I managed to get a few quid out of the race by laying Wajahaa. Poseidon hadn't actually run too badly in a good-class race at Dundalk last time. And let's face it, if Poseidon were completely gone, it would have been 14/1, not 4/1.

Latest Outing ...

Jumped right on occasions, held up in rear, jumped slightly right and pushed along briefly 4th, headway into midfield before 9th, nudged along after 3 out, keeping on before 2 out, went third run-in, never near to challenge

(stewards inquired into running and riding;

jockey said that he was instructed to drop his mount in, get him jumping and do the best he could; he further added that his mount jumped novicey early on before getting into a nice rhythm on the final circuit where his mount was outpaced when the leaders quickened up the pace on approach to the straight; he also added that his mount jumped right over the last two fences and stayed on one-paced to the line;

trainer said that he was very happy with the ride and the performance of his charge considering it was his first run over fences; he also added that his charge has jumped right on some of his previous runs and hadn't been getting home;

vet said gelding was found to be post race normal; samples were taken for analysis; having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence,

the stewards noted the explanations offered but advised jockey to ride with more vigour in future)    GrinHappy
