Horses running in a different race code to last time out

I’ve noticed a few winners at good prices who have won a hurdle but ran on the a/w last time or have won a chase after running in a hurdle last time out.
I’m thinking there may be a system in there somewhere but without clicking on every horse in every race I won’t know just wondered if there is anywhere that would highlight these runners on there race cards for example

I do not know because I do not look for this myself. However, thinking about it suggests:-

My guess is the fastest way is to use the newspaper version of the Racing Post and scan the form of each horse in each race, just checking whether the last race is the same code as the second one. This would, I think be faster than clicking each horse online, because moving your eyeballs is far, far, quicker than moving your mouse. Use a red pen to tick each horse that meets your needs, then go back at the end to think about it.

You might be able to download the PDF of the RP form from the RP (online) card but I think you need to be in Members Club (there is currently a £10/month offer for three months for new subscribers). See if there is an option for "Newspaper Form" at the top of each online card. Even so, I fear the newspaper version will be quicker.

If you have Raceform Interactive, you should be able to run an automated query to tell you, but I'm assuming you do not have it.

Looks like there are about 100 running for you today, good luck picking the bones out of them!

One reason there are so many at the moment is that it includes horses running on the all-weather after running on turf last time out, and the turf season has just ended. You need to decide whether you want to consider those. Likewise, ex-Flat horses going over hurdles for the first time.

TT, can you not thin down the criteria to flat to jumps and vice versa, and hurdles to chase and vice versa etc?

Even if Tiger Tiger cannot automatically filter the list from horseracebase.com, the fact that the list is in race (or race time) order means it is easy to do by eye. Just ignore any race with lots of runners changing code, as there is almost certainly nothing interesting going on.

Or OP could do it from the other end, and first identify races in which he is interested, and then look for those in the big list.

I'm guessing that most of the time, it will be handicap hurdles and chases that are of interest, and jumpers in long distance races on the Flat.

I don't know. It is an interesting angle. I suspect that in time, additional filters can be added, such as types of race, or perhaps it is a trick certain trainers pull off time and again.

I'd be of the view that there is no profitable angle here, punters are clued up enough and it would therefore be factored into any price. I'd like to be proven wrong!

The a/w was class 4 and so was hurdle and the chase winner class 5 and his previous race was class 5 …pretty basic but I’m sure it’s worth a bit of research …

By coincidence, I was just reading the Pricewise book in the smallest room when I came across this snippet:-

“I was always on the lookout for a ‘code switcher’,” Collier says. “A good flat horse who had got in lightly when sent handicap hurdling or the other way round – a solid jumps horse who could take advantage of a lowly mark on the flat.”

Yeah I've also noticed this system, code switchers never lose.
