.... So "seeding" the pool will be happening on a daily basis now then ???   The Tote should not be

allowed anywhere near one of it own pools imo "Guaranteed" or not.

" Are the Tote winning their own Placepots " !!  Well worth a look.

Good point: It is, of course, the worst-case scenario for a pool-based betting system to have a really big pool.

Time for racing to start it's own Tote. I've messaged the so-called Tote telling them what I think of

this practice and what they can do with their product.

Does this guy have Betfair's blessing to come on here and advertise his product?

cardiffc - it's wrong and it's crooked. In really simple terms:

Imagine one ball is to be drawn from a bucket containing balls numbered 1 to 50 to win a share of £75.

There are 100 entrants paying £1 each to pick a number to enter. After the 100 tickets have been sold I can:

1) Pocket the guaranteed £25 profit and leave it at that. Nice work if you can get it! Or
2) I can pocket the £25 profit but also reinvest it (after the draw has closed to other entrants) by buying up any of the numbers that haven't already been covered.

I am guaranteed a bigger profit via the second option (i.e. I'm getting myself 6/4 about an even money chance) - but the knowledge of which numbers have not already been covered is "insider trading" and/or cheating. That info wasn't available to the other entrants!

... Thats your choice Cardiff, have you watched the video ?, personally I would rather

play into a pool that was played by genuine punters only.

Another scenario: Every time a ticket is sold the Tote matches it by buying an identical one. This doubles the size of the pool creating the impression of bigger dividends further boosting sales while in reality the dividend remains exactly the same.

BTW, where does your 10% "Bonus"  come from Cardiff ????  My guess is it was from the Totes winning

ghost tickets.
By:
longbridge
When: 31 Oct 22 11:17
@GC I imagined Cardiff's bonus came from playing the Tote directly rather than (eg) via the BF site, where the Tote pay a % of the stakes to (eg) BF for bringing them the business?  So they're just redirecting the money they would have paid to the affiliate to the punter?

Why cant they be happy with the obscene rake off of nearly a third ???  Greed has led them to

look for even more ways to make more, this " seeding " the pools being another one.

even if you are doing it the last seconds they still have to pick the right horses to win.....now if you are saying they are doing it after the first race then i think that is wrong ..........it would be criminal......dont really understand unless you are saying they do it after the first race is run

They shouldn't be able to buy their own tickets. Simple as that for me.

@cardiffc

"even if you are doing it the last seconds they still have to pick the right horses to win"

Not as I see it.  This game is (long-term) about picking value, not picking winners.

So if you know at the off the Tote return on every runner (and they do, of course) you put your top-up money on those that are longest relative to SP.
By:
JML
When: 31 Oct 22 13:31
And they can take advantage of any late non runners.

And what happens if they have sofware malfunction and "buy" 100 times the amount of tickets they were meant for.

Somewhere they'll have a rule where they will not have to honour these bets.

How does this work in regards a placepot. No money in the pools till near the off?

It’s there for everyone on how many tickets are on every horse throughout the day? I’ve laid off many a bet when it’s worth plenty as I know the value of the return?
By:

It's all smoke and mirrors Harry.

They only play in the win market because they offer SP if better.

They want all selections to go off as close to SP as possible.

In the early days of the lottery Camelot could have made a nice profit by buying tickets for the same amount
as what went into the prize pool.

But they didn't.

The Tote products were neglected for such a long time by baldy, I can see why those running it now are doing this. I think in the short-term this is acceptable. But only in the a short time until the pools are strong enough without the need for any seeding. At this point, some sort of reduction in rake should also come into play. Also it would be a good idea to spend some of their profits on a new website, which for me is the worst website in Horse racing!

Staying with Tote products, I see the Tote 10 to follow is starting over jumps again soon. They are missing a huge opportunity with this. This should have a more fantasy football feel to it. A Youtube channel with an episode playing every Friday previewing Saturday's racing and giving ideas for using your transfer (You should get one every week) a star horse that you can change weekly (double points awarded) one wildcard you can use to change your whole team of horses. Along with more weekly and monthly prizes(Free races days, course memberships, bets) As it stands now, its just an Ante Post comp whereby you have to second guess trainer plans and hope the horses you select for your stable don't get injured(more likely in the jumps game) or lose their form. There's not much strategy involved and it's more luck based.

I think this comp could have been an excellent way to appeal to potential younger horse racing fans and help them learn more about the sport. But hey, what do I know?
By:

When: 31 Oct 22 15:09
Of course, I mean potential fans that enjoy the intricacy of the sport. Not the Alcohol & Concerts way that the Horse Racing industry currently employs.

Seeding? What's going has nothing to do with seeding.

If they wanted to make the pools bigger why don't they place their bets in the morning?
The placepot pools are plenty big enough without this manipulation.

Only 4107 tickets were bought in today's jackpot pool.

Why didn't the tote buy 20,000 tickets in this pool if the reason is to increase the pools?
Could it be because there is no long term profit in that strategy where there is millions to be made
by placing last minute bets into their placepots.

Does Westberks know if the French, Australian, or Hong Kong Totes are allowed to seed the pools?
