Jumping Cuckoo - stick to the jumps or look at numerous excellent Group 1 rides on Alpinista

He does a job of being persistent in the saddle but I'd never trust him with a young horse with potential
Alpinista wins with any jockey on her, imo

Evens seems a starting point
His draw is a slight negative
Last 14 years only horses drawn above 2 have wun 4 times

Seemed to handle Goodwood another undulating track ok.

Fair point. Perhaps my bias of never winning at Ripon is getting the better of me.

That track is a nightmare for some horses.

Well backed on here slippy from around 4.8 in just a  matter of minutes

T Clover reported that Al Karrar didn't handle the track.

They knew... backed winner as won from bad position lto and said follow till it loses...not big thou but drift on fav with questionable on helps

Never back a shortie at ripon worse track in the country many horses can’t handle the course up there with Epsom and Chelmsford no better than most dog tracks

Especially unbalanced if you have 'hoppy' riding on top of it

I wish I hadn't have got on before the drift.

For those who want to avoid the rubbish there have been three standouts over the last two days:-

Tempus - Won never really in doubt

Happy Power - only had to get close to reproducing previous Goodwood performances, but relatively weak in the market, and beaten fully two furlongs out under a jock who could supposedly do no wrong

Al Karrar - standout on Group form (only 15lbs in hand), but another the market didn't want and basically beaten with the jock all over the place after 100 yards

Obviously, some losers mean a lot more to bookmakers than others. If they can get a nice percentage of shorties beaten in the better races they are in clover.

Someone knew that the horse wasn't winning today.  They must have known it wouldn't handle the track

How is that 'they knew' and the people closest to horse appear to have been clueless? Isn't Goodwood a fast, undulating track, and didn't he find himself out on a wing in that race?

I strongly suspect that Alpinista has been winning despite the jock, rather than because of him.

Those who backed the second and third favourites yesterday must have been popping champagne corks after 100 yards as Morris wasted no time in removing that 15lb advantage.

He's riding well again today I see...
