I got plenty of mileage after Zenyetti acey, only one who had the winner!!! Tbf to hunnigen the trainer thinks Glen is like Zenyetti so tells him to do the usual. The horse travels well so no need to be so far back when he could could be equally chilled just behind the pace.

As much shyte comes out of trainers mouths as a rico thread IMVHO!!!!

I presume the instructions were to drop in (as had been the case when winning at Group 3 and Listed level last season), but when they didn't go much of a pace, he stood little chance. Hardly Mulrennan's fault they crawled round.

I backed EG. Done by the slowish pace unfortunately. Of course, not only would a quicker pace have suited a closer, it opens the pack up. Even with a clear run, I don't feel the leaders were stopping enough.

Trainer fails to take responsibility, jockey does what he is instructed (always with this horse) but fails to adapt. Both inept and incapable!!!

This jockey always does as Jim tells him on every horse ...no real room for original thought on his part...maybe that's a blessing though..Grin

So a jockey has no latitude in a race to use initiative? Even Goldie does not insist on sticking to instructions, would make him as thick as this forum if he did!!!!

I thought it was a poor ride, went from the inside rail to the stand side rail and found trouble, could have dropped in near the middle of the course when they tacked over. Unlucky but he asked for it.

Just watched again, a truly horrendous ride, saddo spot on with his comment

I've just had another look back at it and focused on that ride and imo over 3f out he goes for a run down the centre of the track but is prevented from doing so by Gaassee.

So then he has no choice but to go back inside and weave a passage which takes him near to the stands' rail.

The fact that over three furlongs out he tried for the centre run tells me it wasn't a premeditated move to come stands' side, but because of how the race panned out and in trying to secure a clear run, that was where he ended up.

They used to lead or ride him prominently, but in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes last season they went bonkers up front and Mulrennan let them go and sat off them. It worked and they've ridden him that way since, but yesterday it just didn't go their way.

Went up a blind alley at Goodwood prior to that George, sometimes you need to make your own luck.

If he stay centre he only had Gaa to worry about, by switching he had a wall of horses to get through

All easy in hindsight tbf but if you think you have a chance FFS do not hold a strong travelling horse behind a wall until your hand is forced,we see it even in 5 runner races.Anyone can be excused Goodwood but York?

I see no point in holding one up and hoping every time, try and give it a chance.

Bit different sitting last in a four runner Brigadier Gerard Stakes and a 20 runner Ebor.

Jim Goldie was quoted in the RP yesterday saying they were going to ride him as they usually do and for luck. They didn't get any.

That's what happens when you depend on luck.

Soulcombe won earlier in the day using the exact same tactics in the Melrose. You can see why they were successful by comparing the time with the Ebor. In a field full of classy experienced stayers, on paper a good clip looked almost assured. It didn't work out like that, and FD was miles clear at one point without doing too much.

Got this race comment on ATR when winning less than two years ago

'tracked leaders, travelling well near side of group over 2f out, went 2nd on bit over 1f out, rider delayed challenge until final 150 yards, soon led and pushed clear, good ride'

Race before that he made all and won, now they ride it like a one trick pony. A little initiative would help, I'm fairly sure of that.

I'm very confident he would have gone very close with those tactics with a decent pace. Those were the tactics I was hoping for. Once all the runners have got their position in a race like that, if you've decided on exaggerated hold up tactics, that's pretty much it, you're stuck with them. Looping the field mid race would guarantee finishing tailed off.
By:
saddo
When: 21 Aug 22 21:13
I haven't suggested he loop the field anywhere, though he did cross the whole course behind them all which was his undoing.
Perhaps next time Mulrennan will allow the horse to get him out of trouble. Horses aren't in top form on a good mark for ever.

just re watched a few times..i absolutely cannot believe what im reading..
its a hold up horse that runs best off a fast pace..they only went a moderate gallop which wasnt ideal..rounding the last bend its still travelling in the middle of the track..had no room in front so switched it to its right..then had a sl check again as not much room..its stayed on but couldnt get close..maybe lost 1-2L max and beaten 4...there was 20 runners ffs..to say mullrennan rode an absolute shocker makes you look absolutely clueless.

Sometimes saddo, it's as simple as the race didn't pan out as hoped. The first three were all up top from the start, and the forth is quite a classy one paced plodder. He rode exactly as I hoped, clearly you don't want traffic but as I wrote earlier in the thread, I don't feel he would have been able to beat the front three given the lack of pace anyway. Quite possibly he would have gotten into the frame with a clear run.

Comm sayed it was weaving a way through, lol looked like it was on rails.                    Waited for a writing invitation to go through a gapping chasim late on, bird had flown, plenty win from there at York but pace was slack early, horse not a fighter, Jim can't fix that but he could step it up in trip, big field hcp.... There is one I can think of.
How fwanki won that is the take out imo, must of went silly ir, again early pace allowed it.
Irish horse the take out, looks nice.
OP not a race reader, should stick to f1.
