having to endure a cost of living crisis, including energy bills going up dramatically, or is it just us Brits ?

Well their govs are the ones that own the power companies that charge us loads of dosh so they don't have to charge theirs loads of dosh is vaguely how it works.

Firstly the only businesses that have a "windfall" are those who take oil and gas out of the ground and sell it to the companies who sell it to the public. The only ones that do both in UK that I am aware of are Shell and BP. I find it interesting that EDF who own most of the nuclear plants are French so are they subject to UK tax on their windfall? Meanwhile all of the so called green energy companies have been raising their prices for electricity in line with those who use gas. Have their costs gone up by that much? They are the ones that should be paying more tax but it seems that they are still losing money and are still subsidised. We need more clarity.

Meanwhile in Germany they are trying to save on imported gas by insisting that everyone has to have cold showers. They have the same or worse problems than us but of course the media here only talk about UK problems. Almost very interviewee on Sky and BBC is calling for more Government money which can only come from higher taxes.

Germany is experiencing cost of living issues as most of Europe, but the goverment has increased the income tax threshold level and reduced tax on fuel (equivalent to 25p less on petrol). Everyone receives a 300 euro payment and 100 euros per child. Those on social welfare get an extra 100 euros. Also implemented is a 9 euro monthly travel card valid for June, July and August that can be used on all forms of transportation (bus, tram, S/U-Bahn, regional trains in the country (except the ICE trains). so i could travel from München to Hamburg for 9 euros return. There are plans to continue this until year end.
Unemployment here is 60% of the previous net salary (up to max 7050 euros per month) I don't know of anyone here (München) that is taking cold showers.  |

Yes ....carry on with your left wing myths and drivel...... my two Greek sister in laws both live and work in the UK both before and after Brexit because of the sky high cost of living in Greece.........

Germany and Sweden are comfortable countries to live in, no complaints, although i prefer the latter and will not be in München permanently anyway. I couldn't comment about daily/routine life in UK (left in 1984) although i'm a visitor often enough. |
