Report GEORGE.B June 25, 2022 4:06 PM BST
Desert Crown did a lot of running uphill in the early stages to get into his position at Epsom, whereas Westover arguably had a more efficient trip round to the straight, as did the second Hoo Ya Mal, yet Desert Crown was still travelling all over him at the point when Westover was stopped in his run.

I think the tactics would be straightforward for Kingscote in a rematch, sit in behind and do Westover for a turn of foot inside the furlong.

tactics massive part, westover looked to have a huge stride would be hard to peg back.
Report jonjon June 25, 2022 4:13 PM BST
Crown was heard down when this boat was getting organised at epsom.

Riding tactics today quick ground at curragh is a typical Curragh result.

Beat shyte in behind tho did it well.

Crown shouldn’t be worried in the KG tho I beg that it happens especially with Adayar looking to go there. Be a quality renewal.
Report Jumping-cuckoo-monk June 25, 2022 4:14 PM BST
The King George would have a similar vibe to the Sharastani v Dancing Brave rematch
I think DC might concentrate on 10 fur campaign and not go near Westie Cool
Report duffy June 25, 2022 4:16 PM BST
I'm actually surprised that so many seasoned horse watchers fancy Westover in a rematch and can't see DC is simply a higher class animalGrin

good colt but beat nothing today  - the second was nowhere at Epsom
Report brigust1 June 25, 2022 4:22 PM BST
I backed it because it was a terrible race as the result has shown. I just think the racing commentators, Nevison etc, don't say what they see. Everything is hyped to the nth degree. It was an awful race with the best Irish horse being a Gr3 winner at best.
Report Jumping-cuckoo-monk June 25, 2022 4:22 PM BST
Maybe the 2nd didn't like travelling/running at Epsom? Gave it's true running today on home turf
Report impossible123 June 25, 2022 4:23 PM BST
Desert Crown (DC) any day any time for me. i believe DC was toying with the Derby field. Just watch DC in the King George with/out Adayar or Westover who I think will most likely skip (deserve to win the Irish Derby); The Arc is the place for another pop at the Derby winner again.

I do not think Westover will go down the St Leger route after today.

great crop this year for Frankel - Nashwa, Inspiral, Homelesss Songs now this one
Report brigust1 June 25, 2022 4:25 PM BST
JCM - through Glory Daze it ran exactly the same race. Beat Glory Daze by 7.5 lengths at Epsom and 6.5 lengths at the Curragh today where it would have been asked for more as it was placed.
Report duffy June 25, 2022 4:26 PM BST
Curragh today it is very clear that any horse racing out of its ground has had no chance, all winners and pretty all placed horses were in the van throughout the race.
Report DancingBraveTheBest June 25, 2022 4:26 PM BST
Will be suprised if DC ever comes off the bit, nothing can go fast enough imo to trouble him....will go down in history as a very good derby winner imo.
Report Cutter27 June 25, 2022 4:27 PM BST
Once the trainer has sorted out West's wayward and wandering tendencies, the result is very clear. However, this is no easy matter, as a lazy horse is an incorrigible horse, and no matter what attention an idiot of a trainer gives to the horse, it will not change the horse. FACT. Desert will slay the upstart, and I and others will collect necessary money of you idiots on here.
Report A_T June 25, 2022 4:29 PM BST

Money is always a necessary addition, even when you roll in millions like me. I still need a pound note to keep me satisfied in the feel of money.

On the contrary, my Canterbury Bishop is my saviour from drunken debauchery and the love of beautiful women.

Report Cutter27 June 25, 2022 4:35 PM BST
Oh, on a sultry and not summer afternoon in Canterbury, I would oblige many a beautiful woman to relax and let off their clamminess.

Three Hail Marys and generous blow of the fan, I would often hear their, 'Ooohhhhh, Cutter. Give me some more.'
Report Cutter27 June 25, 2022 4:40 PM BST
Anyway, back to the racing point at hand: the Frankel son is bad one. He will drift and you will lose your money. You can put an idiot on board like Frank Spencer, and upstart like Ryan, or even a fairy girl like Hollie, you can even shuvv thatlittlefart Fitzgerald back in the saddle, and the result will still be the same. Loss

I'm a firm believer that Desert Crown would have won the Derby however it was run, for me was much the best horse on the day. But although the form readers may tell you otherwise, I think Westover is improving all the time and would at least give DC a race if they were to meat again. I'd still take DC though.

Was talking to my sister about this the other day (she's a very knowledgeable long standing racing fan) and we both reckoned this has the potential to be the best flat season for a long time in terms of potential quality clashes of a good very good crop of 3yo's and some exceptional older horses. Let's hope we have some brave trainers and owners to give us something to savour.

Report Gibberish June 25, 2022 7:16 PM BST
Even after today, I'm still firmly in the Desert Crown camp but I did think after The Derby,
Westover deserved another shot at the convincing winner as he didn't have it easy at Epsom
and was capable of better - he's got a lot to do for him to trouble the winner when they meet
at Ascot next month but he's taken the first step in his stride and connections can hope.

So many horses for one reason or another become disappointing after running their hearts out at Epsom and are
never heard of again so it's nice for a relatively small stable to see him buck the trend and not become another
addition to the hall of shame...Mighty Flutter, Mashkour, Great Gatsby, Dragon Dancer, Khalifa Sat etc.

Westover would need a very fast pace to have a chance of beating DC
Report Gibberish June 25, 2022 8:10 PM BST
I agree AT but he's not a no-hoper.
As cliched as it sounds, it's a different day, different course/going etc.

Maybe a serious monsoon would hamper the favourite's chances or it might
even be his turn to have a bit of bad luck in running.

I've seen too many mindblowing and unlikely wins over the years...even at
group one level, to remain confident about anything being a cert.

Remember Torquator Tasso in The Arc? And prior to that, Solemia in the top
European race.
Not to mention the IMPOSSIBLE...Arabian Queen beating Golden Horn at York.

I rest my case Crazy

Whenever i read threads like this my immediate thoughts are , what else is in the race at a price.

May not appear so at the moment but it's unlikely to be a one or two horse race come post time whatever the dreaded form book , form lines or ratings may suggest.
Report penzance June 25, 2022 8:28 PM BST
Adayar for a start.
Report brigust1 June 25, 2022 8:52 PM BST
Torquator Tasso and Tarnawa proved that last years three-year-olds were not a lot. But until the Eclipse Stakes we will not begin to know how good this years three-year olds are. The fact that the well fancied favourite of a well supported Derby won easily this year as opposed to last year where the unfancied outsider from a yard with three entries in a very small field won could mean this years three year olds are very much better but until they meet no-one knows for sure. However Native Trail and Coreobus don't look outstanding but only a bit better than the rest over a mile.
The older horses like Mishriff, smashed up in the Eclipse last year, then once considered the best horse in the world after the Juddmonte, but never won another race and with only one run tailed off this year plus Bay Bridge, a Group 3 winner, to represent the older horses that group do not look strong either.

To have any hope for the future the three-year olds must win the top races this year.
Report brigust1 June 25, 2022 9:05 PM BST
Plus with the older horses Real World who is not far behind Baaeed and he has never even won a Group 1 and only been placed in Group 1's behind Baaeed that form is not outstanding. Be interesting to see Coreobus in the Sussex Stakes.
Report A_T June 25, 2022 10:02 PM BST
would not surprise me if Godolphin run both Adayar and Hurricane Lane - then there's Emily Upjohn though I expect she will go to the Irish Oaks which looks a penalty kick for her. It could be a very good renewal of the King George
