This morning in Herne Hill, South East London I paid £104 quid to fill the car.
I think it was about £75 not that long ago.

Welcome to the U.K. 2022 stylee. We're getting every last drop ( no pun intended) squeezed out of us at every turn.

The cost of fuel has increased sharply because the price for crude oil, which is used to make petrol and diesel, has gone up.

Crude oil was cheaper at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, because many businesses temporarily closed and demand for energy collapsed.

As life returned to normal, the demand for energy increased. But suppliers have struggled to keep up and prices have risen.

Another problem is that the oil used to make petrol is paid for in US dollars. The pound is weak against the dollar at the moment, which makes fuel even more expensive.

Anyone advocating lockdown is now beginning to pay the price that they pretending wasn't inevitable. The problem of course is that people who always knew it was deranged are also paying the price.

Yes its all the fault of Starmer and Rayner and we shouldn't blame a party who have been in government for the past 12 years.

It looks they are saying that the opposition have been unelectable, which would lead to them being out of power for 12 years.

But the reality of politics is that the Tories only had a workable majority since December 19, then of course covid for the next two years.

They have largely wasted their powerful majority, but that's another subject.

They are saying kneeler and ginger growler are also unelectable. Which is difficult to dispute. The Tory jeopardy is Lib dems in the posher bits of the country.

I'm personally concerned about what the elected government can achieve now, rather than an election way in the future. If they fix the first bit, the second bit will naturally follow.

Sparrow, my point was that Labour are not electable with those two at the helm. I thought that was fairly obvious.

The worst outcome possible is a coalition and krankie's price will be another reffy. They wouldn't win the reffy in my view but of course it would be hugely divisive whatever the outcome.

This is interesting >> It’s important to remember that the UK doesn’t actually own its gas supplies – rather, privately owned corporations such as British Gas control the gas and are allowed to export it to whomever they please.

This has happened for many years now, but it was the exports in 2021 that caused some controversy. In 2021, it was revealed in government statistics that the UK had exported 31,975 gigawatt hours’ worth of gas to Belgium and the Netherlands.

In light of the ongoing energy crisis, this exporting came as a surprise to many, especially when compared to figures from 2018 and 2019 (16,439 and 19,633 GWh, respectively). Many argued that the exports were a slap in the face to households already struggling to pay for skyrocketing energy prices while also anticipating the energy price cap rise coming into effect April 1st.

A single gigawatt hour (or, one million kilowatt hours) is enough to power roughly one million UK households for an hour.

Take the 53p tax out of the UK price to get the real thing. They could do a lot more than the 5p already given as a reduction if they wanted to.

Next election a bit too far away for that though.

I doubt whether Labour would win outright but so long as the SNP dominate Scottish elections, they are guaranteed to have the offer of another 40+ votes in return for a second referendum. The problem for Labour is that should that vote result in independence for Scotland, they will lose that support again. There is no way that English rural seats will vote Labour. If they don't vote Tory they vote Lib Dem.

As far as fuel is concerned, stop driving for leisure purposes or at least reduce it enough to get back to your previous weekly cost. I understand that some driving is essential for work or shopping but does anyone have to drive to a racecourse, Glastonbury festival, the seaside or any other tourist activity? Put it off until fuel prices come back down as they surely will.

Good morning J.M. Hope you're in good form.
I had to look up what a Macan was, I'm useless about cars and models, makes etc.

Looks nice, a bit better than my wheels for sure.

£122 quid, it's quite incredible how much fuel costs us.

Hi Slippy, hope all's well with you too.

I knew it was expensive to run prior to buying it but it's a car you want to get out and drive so I find myself doing more miles than is sensible in the current climate. One day I'll learn!

Hi Johnny, I guess that if you can afford the car you can afford the fuelCool I have a Peugeot 3008 Diesel and resent the price difference from unleaded but I cut my mileage by almost half in 2020 and have not gone up much since. A 30 litre top up lasts me a month and I never use public transport (or a bike).

Hello Sageform, hope you're keeping well too.

Ideally I would have bought a Mercedes EQC but they're so flipping expensive (as are all decent electric cars) that I thought I'd drive the Macan for a couple of years and take a view on the Merc's prices at that point. Am not expecting them to drop much though.

Supply and demand is still alive (just) so if more people buy electric, drive less miles, buy smaller cars etc. etc. the price will come down. What we all need to remember though is that the culprit is Mr Putin with help from OPEC.
By:

When: 09 Jun 22 13:17
The vast majority of my mileage is going racing, which I do as often as I can.
Taking family and friends it was never ever a thought in my head for them to chip in for petrol but now they do insist on paying their share. I'm teetotal so I don't mind doing the driving as everyone else likes a drink when at the various courses we frequent.
