I've never understood the concept of pocket talkers. To me, it's pretty simple: the sport is sold as RACING, and we all know that a big proportion of horses out each day don't actually race - they are galloping along to make crap races look more like good races. This can be for whatever reason: the horse is no good but the trainer has to enter it somewhere to keep the owners happy; its handicap mark is way above it - everyone knows it - but there's no getting it down without it running so it gallops along in races. And other reasons. But here's the thing: IT IS SOLD AS A RACE AND YOU ARE INVITED BY THE RACECOURSE, THE BOOKIES AND THE CONNECTIONS TO BELIEVE THE HORSE AND JOCKEY YOU BACK ARE RACING IN A RACE.

So, when you get f*ck all of a ride for whatever reason, when your horse does nothing, for whatever reason, when you have invested x amount of money TO KEEP THE SPORT GOING THROUGH LEVY DEDUCTIONS, you have a PERFECT RIGHT TO HAVE A BLOODY GOOD MOAN. You, the punter, are at the bottom of the pile in everything, everyone is making money except you, you even occasionally have jockeys boasting in the public domain that punters can go f*ck themselves (famous jump jockey more or less said that some years ago), so, given that everything is against you, that you are dealing with an elaborate farce of veiled information, YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO MOAN.
