Michael Roberts might be the confusing factor as he rode regularly for Clive but also rode a horse called Lafayette to victory who was trained by Alec Stewart and in that race Clive had a horse called Shush so I will Grin

Thank you Alan and jimnast - That's the one ! = Lafontaine.  Happy

Will dig the Form Books out, later - and look him up.

There was a Lafayette around 20 years ago, trained initially by Alec Stewart and later by Robbie Osborne, won a few races and was placed in a Galway Hurdle.

But note Noel Meade's current horse is called LAYFATETTE. Clive Brittain trained Lafontaine in the early '80s

LAYFAYETTE  sorry ! it doesn't trip of the tongue exactly

His sire French Navy was a late maturing, likable (he was to me) type and this guy looks like following him along the same path. Will surely pick up more races this season

Cheers chaps - Whilst acknowledging the - Alec Stewart connection to the subsequent Irish runner -

I always had CLIVE BRITTAIN in mind - and, as previously posted - I was obviously thinking of LFONTAINE.

LAFONTAINE Won the November Handicap in 1981 - off 8st7lb, ridden by George Duffield - Made all - at 16/1 ...

... perhaps I backed it Happy

Will look up it's full history later.

Another French Navy 5yo ran an eye catching race in the Lincoln and worth adding to your notebook because he looks certain to have his best season at 5 too.

Lafontaine went on to win the Cumberland Lodge as a 5-y-old entire in 1982 and was eventually retired to stud in Ireland at the end of the 1983 season. He was owned by Mrs J Bigg, possibly the wife of the 1959 Grand National winning owner, John Bigg.

More recently sylvester Kirk trained a lafontaine won at kempton 2019 of a mark of 46 .

After timing, I was quite young but won £320 quid on it and went straight out to buy a Canon A1 camera
with the proceeds.
