what a strange suggestion from him-but I suppose he is sponsored by a bookmaker. 30 races spread over 5 days so that Cheltenham get extra revenue but only have to find 2 extra races. How does that benefit anyone apart from the racecourse and its temporary staff? Punters. 5 days racing to watch instead of 5. If on course that is more expense. If at home then it is another day holiday used up if you are working. Owners and trainers. Extra travelling and expenses for horses, stable staff etc. Instead of running say 10 horses over 4 days using 3 boxes you might have to pay for an extra horsebox or overnight stay. Will the prize money for the extra races come out of the pot for the other 28? Cheltenham residents and workers. Another day of traffic jams and disruption-presumably on Saturday.
I have no idea what half the races are now , don't recognise the names , horses entered in a ludicrous number of races . The quality is diluted and the only reason for another day is to get punters betting(whilst still allowed) and spending even more at the course.
It will be little better than the Chester Sunday cards at this rate..............

I've been going for over 30 years. When it got extended I just stuck at 3 days, Tuesday to Thursday (Gold Cup day is quite dull after the big race). If it goes to 5 I suspect that will be the end for me. The more days they introduce, the more they dilute everything that makes it so special.

Will they introduce checks on course when you bet with cash with the rails or books.
That would be interesting. £2000 win on Honeysuckle please, what's your monthly salary and costs please?

Most of the handicaps have always been there. Mildmay of Flete, Coral Cup, Pertemps, County, Grand Annual, Kim Muir, NH Handicap. New names, same races. The Martin Pipe and Fred Winer are the more recent ones. The big increase has been from the 3 mares races and an extra novice chase. Having reread my early post, it is a bit of a contradiction in that most people won't need an extra holiday if it is a Saturday. They surely can't start on Monday, Taunton and Stratford are sacrosanct.
