Good Morning Ronnie, for a moment I thought you're giving up bookmaking. Don't! The industry needs knowledgeable bloke like you on the front line.

I do not blame you for ditching Cheltenham after this renewal, and embrace DRF. Apart from a handful (I really mean a handful) the British have been abysmal.

I hope you've an enjoyable and memorable Cheltenham next month.

That's criminal...for a sporting event. The amount would be sufficient for a weekend holiday with lodging in the countryside; drf (democratic republic of fermanagh)?

Hi Ronnie,

Flash sale on at present for DRF. General admission tickets for 2 days €55 or £47. There is a green line luas from the city that stops at Sandyford and complimentary shuttle bus to the track from there - less than 10 minutes. I have stayed at the Clayton Leopardstown a number of times - it is basic enough but very convenient - it is a 10 minute walk to the course. The next luas stop after Sandyford is 2 minutes from the Clayton so easy to get into the city. If my better half was going and not as vested in the races  I would probably stay in city centre and get luas out - it's about 25/30 minutes.

Agree with Ronnie, my last festival too sad to say love it but got f.....g ridiculous, £1500 before you have a drink, bet and food and I book year in advance, plus the racing not that competitive like it used to be. God help when it goes 5 days they be 1/5F's and 8 runner races all over the shop. Great memories though.

Are the figures quoted for 4 nights B&B?

Aintree has gone the same way for the National meeting. Stopped going about 5 years ago. The evening meetings in Spring are the best wants to attend now.

Hope you have a good return betting wise, seems it will be needed.

We hired a cottage last Monday on Airbnb that sleeps 10 for £3200 last Monday. 7 miles from track. With membership and taxis won’t be more than £850 per person for entire festival. We steer clear of hotels these days.

20 miles away in Newnham, £310 for (£155 each) four nights, self catering cottage. OK its an hour by bus and train to Cheltenham but well worth the effort.

Sorry mate just read this
The glenroyal in maynooth is a racing hotel its about an hour away by train from leopardstown but local pubs run busses.
Same for naas & punchestown.
Hotel is run by racing people from Galway, been done up last year.
Nearby bookies, easy parking
Have a butchers mate !
