Agree it was a very odd ride by Brennan and why he didn't ride his horse out for at least 4th place was very strange . He did Not remotely ride his horse to obtain the best possible position . On the flip side in the race he rode a text book style finish that oozed confidence

"jockey fiddling with iron briefly just after last" - sporting life comment - love that - I've watched again and again (had a big bet on the place) - I don't see him lose an iron AND he took a pull 20 yards from line - compare with rider trying on actual 4th - really disgraceful and the kind of thing that puts normal punters off the sport - not me of course (addict)

I also bet it the time before when it won and took up the running turning for home. The horse looked as though it would have no trouble with the extra couple of furlongs so that can't be used as an excuse to ride it like a non stayer.

So Dr "he'd have tried harder..."implies you think he was trying. Do you? ..... I should leave it really - it's done now .... but that one annoyed me more than others .... I'm not even sure why ..... there's so much non-trying in the game.... shouldn't be shocked by now

Gave the horse too much to do and when he lost an iron he thought he wouldnt win, so he didnt give it any effort thinking 'dont want to finish too close wait for another day.'

Another point worth mentioning is the hold up tactics employed by the jockey on Art Approval.
If you'll watch them jumping the second last, Art Approval looked about half a length behind the eventual winner.
But could not go with him.
And the favourite Pileon who had been racing prominent had already weakened away. Five runners were pulled up in this gruelling test.
I'm sure punters don't want to see horse driven to exhaustion every time they run. So cut the jockeys a bit of slack for using their judgement to gauge what a horse can or cannot do at the time of asking.

Dr you seem to be deliberately missing the point, Brennan didn't want to get the horse involved and that's as clear as day. It's vert hard to trust a jockey like Brennan to use his 'judgement' when it's clear what he was up to. If the horse was struggling as you say why didn't he pull it up?

I didn't say he was struggling at that point, I said he couldn't go with the winner.
Just because a jockey isn't flailing away with his whip or dancing up and down on the horses back like a monkey up a stick, doesn't mean the horse isn't doing its best.
I believe most punters can't tell when a horse is giving its best, they rely on what the jockey is doing to give them a guide.
How many times do we see horses come off the bridle when appearing (purely from watching the motionless jockey) to be full of running, and then to find nothing?
A bad jockey will give a horse a bad time when it is doing its best, and get it unbalanced.
A better jockey will not.

The dead giveaway is that now you have switched your attention to me, instead of the ride.
or try Specsavers
The same applies to the other poster who has fallen into the same trap.

From about halfway between the final two he's not riding out fully, happy to stay beside the eventual second. Horse clearly stays so that can't be made an excuse anymore. As with every horse he rides each obstacle seems to come as a surprise to Paddy.

I tend to back his charges when I think he's riding the horse with the best chance of winning.
Good ride from Brennan today on Art approval. Put it into the race with every chance, and would have been second but for hanging right. That's not the jockey's fault. Just a sign that the horse might have had enough.

Never the most orthodox style of riding but whatever it is he's doing is much more pronounced in the last few years.I think he's still a good rider but it's not the easiest of watches.

I was watching the fav so was oblivious to this. I just watched it back and if his not trying, why strike three times? But then it almost looked like he let his horse go right to bump into a rival, and then he seems very tender on the run in compared to normal where his arse is normally nearly touching his horses tail and his arms and legs are everywhere, but none of that today? Strange indeed.

all about opinions, this imo is a horse that possibly could have won his last race before this one and the riding both last 2 runs has been questionable, it either has a target or its one of those that promises and not delivers, im on the first suggestion but because its been highly covered up its hard to know for certain
