Never been much better than a journeyman jock. Hard to say they didn't at least give him a chance.
Are they going to replace him, or just pick the best of the dross on a daily basis?

I get the feeling that all the horses SDS rides know they've had a race when what's needed is a more nurturing style for costly purchases? It's his style, won him a jocks championship on bread and butter horses? Any ex-jocks on here have a view?

SDS simply not the same jockey he was a few years ago his win percentage has dropped alarmingly this season compared to his five year average. No idea why this is but hope this will be the catalyst to him reigniting his career.

Pretty obvious to most rational thinkers that the job is too big for one jock, and though I like the outfit , not a good idea to have a retained jockey who will need to visit 12 trainers to ride their horses. Just let the trainers pick their preferred jocks. De Sousa remains a top jock in my book.

Paid well over the odds for rubbish, how the horse traders must have licked their lips when they seen them coming. The bloodstock industry rotten to the core.

He is 40 now, been champion, made is money. I don't think he will be too concerned. Can wind it down a bit if he wants to.
Ryan Moore is 38 now. Will be rowing the same boat soon as well.
Time waits for none.

It's been a shame in recent times if you fancied one at Ascot only to see SDS on board. I'm not going to bash him, he's been exemplary over the years, but his record there and his performances have been woeful.

Probert must be on the shortlist. Gave Bangkok one of the rides of the season at York and he's based with Balding. As for SDS. He doesn't look as hungry as he did a few seasons ago. Backed one of his at Kempton a few weeks ago and the old SDS would have got it home no trouble but on this occasion it got beat a neck. I think he needs a different challenge and I'd love to see him go over and have a crack at the US.

MMMamluska and the mad dog make great points about what sort of clowns were buying these horses to begin with, them must be the only agents at the sales using guide dogs to bid for them, from what i have seen of king power horses, it aint SDS fault that they aint winning

my theory for a while has been that SDS is a very hard rider and horses remember next time he rides them. David Probert by comparison is much more sympathetic so horses run for him.

Just to highlight the skills of the bloodstock agents they use, Sackville Donald bought nine yearlings at the premier Book1 and Book2 sales in 2020 that have run as 2-y-olds this year for King Power.
There are nine of them, total cost 1.675M guineas - they've won 3 races from 29 starts and the five that have run often enough to have a handicap mark are rated beyween 71 and 87.
Yes it's a small sample, but you won't find any mention of Blackbird Power (350k) or Kitsune Power (235k) on the agents glossy website.

Kitsune Power (235k) out of an unraced mare and a sire with E12.5K (E15K at the time) stud fee. Sackville & Donald must be on Stuart Mcphee's Christmas card list!

King Power definitely need new bloodstock agents looks like they tried to buy anything with a fancy tag stuck on it Andrew Balding had a great year but King Power didn't Oisin Murphy and Probert had great seasons on his horses but the King Power ones ran poorly not SDS fault because all that glistens isn't gold.

75 horses have run this season for King Power of which 23 have an RPR above 100. Not a bad percentage. Cheveley Park had 9 rated above 100 from 53 runners.
