shows how blinkered the racing establishment is to this ongoing problem In July, one racegoer was arrested at Goodwood after an incident on the Friday of its five-day 'Glorious Goodwood' left one man bleeding heavily. Just one day after that incident, a man was arrested at Lingfield after driving a car into a crowd of racegoers leaving the track on an evening plagued by trouble. One other man was arrested during racing for verbal and physical abuse towards staff and other racegoers. |

Would probably have done nothing if it wasn't on social media.
For many these days it's just day out with racing tagged on. For those people, the racing isn't that exciting, and they have to make their own 'entertainment'. Racing knows that, but them it is literally 'bums on seats'. |

How many afternoon crowds of 5000 at any kind of event with alcohol on sale get through the day without a dispute of some sort. Get it in proportion please.

I've been to Ponty and Beverley recently, you wouldn't expect to hear a raised voice -and we didn't- never mind a fight. Was at Ponte a few years ago and a music night was on for a 70s /80s band may have been a tribute band. A fight broke out just outside the parade ring and came into it. Ended up with one man stomping on another head. Was a bad incident |

agreed glasgow - cheapest ive found was around £5.20 at both kelso and Brighton both ends of country - amazed by Brighton cos wuda thought it wuda been £7-8 minimum

Minimal security/policing? First thing to do should be to charge racecourses with bringing the sport into disrepute.

I read the other day that the racecourses are having problems with staff shortages since the crowds were allowed back. Apparently many of the people employed before the restrictions are not returning.

This is happening repeatedly on racecourses and causing an image problem. I’m not saying that this is the solution (I'm sure there could be a better way - ideas welcomed!), but courses could sell tickets that include the price of two or three drinks and/or food (with vouchers or via your mobile), and that would be the only way racegoers could get alcohol. (No doubt an unscrupulous person could get round this). I suspect racecourses wouldn’t want to do this because gate numbers - I'm assuming - would drop substantially so they are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Sparrow you are correct about labour shortages. Brighton has not opened it's snack/coffee bar in the main grandstand since July. They cannot get the casual staff to staff it.

2 day meet at Warwick last week had bars closed that would usually be open. One of my haunts one of em
 £5.50 a pint there but by card only. You can use cash to get in and with the books but not for a pint. Crazy |

If your business model is attracting heavy drinkers to pay extortionate prices for alcohol you should be forced to provide proper security -like nightclubs do- or pay for enough real Police officers to attend in sufficient numbers.

if you have a fight in the street you get arrested but if you fight on a racecourse you do not because zero police presence so in theory if you fancy a drinking session and a scrap with a few mates pay the racing ticket price because you dont get any repercussions, racecourses dont name and shame people after a fight they just say security dealt with it nothing to see.
