I went to The Den a few years ago and there were sniffer dogs in the bars and outside the ground. It would be easy enough to organise at racecourses and not at any great expense I wouldn't have thought.

Who do you think they will get Security wise paying £10 an hour that will be able to do the job? Just look at Wembley for the Euro Final. Even had Stewards selling Uniforms as a way of getting in. You would have to get the army in to do it properly, the police are a total fckin waste of time. THE COUNTRY IS WELL AND TRULY FCKED. Glad I wont be here in 2 generations time. 3RD World countries will be looking down at us over here. London is already there.

big, big week for york and uk racing generally ebor week. last few months suggests a real problem with the young, drugs, etc .....york normally gets it just about ok with security and policing but its becoming harder for sure . i think older racegoers getting fed up with the situation.racecourses as daylight nightclubs ... problem for racing is i saw lots of young kids watching a sport with a good few drinking nearby , bit of good natured shouting . plenty of replica tops , atmosphere seemed great ... alas , it was the cricket 100 . ...

What's the point in catching druggies? Even when the police can be bothered to catch one or two the magistrates let them off with a slapped wrist.
The country is becoming increasingly lawless as the police focus on anything except regular crime.
There's no way back under the present political climate.

I will be at York next week. Aintree GN meeting the only big day I attend. Will not go near the bars hence avoiding the mayhem. Luckily the 'jolly boys' dont want to see a horse in the flesh.

Seems bizarre this obsession with drugs (presumably Coke, MDMA, speed, weed?).
Alcohol causes many more deaths and more violence than all of those put together and racecourses actively promote it.
If you go to a big meeting there will be thousands of boozed up youngsters with minimal interest in the sport - so why would you go?
Go to a midweek meeting, enjoy a couple of pints, a cheeky line and a relaxing smoke on the way home - perfect.

Shirley the problem with the drug sniffer dogs is that if one of them somehow got into the jockeys changing room - they would have to abandon the meeting!

theres no comparison with drugs and alcohol, least of all the specious deaths argument. for a start, many more drink than take drugs. having a glass of something you enjoy, from selecting what you like, smelling the flavour, comparing your opinion with friends and enjoying a few drinks together is the spice of life, or at least it is in civilised countries. and i dont mean just wine either. ive been in a town square in gemnay and every one of them is laggo. no hint of bovver.
drugs on the other hand are anti-social and not pleasurable to ingest. sniffing harpic in the bog is not a joyful, shared experience. and people after a 'cheeky line' are tedious and solipsistic. they dont listen and ramble incoherently and endlessly. add to that the gurning and runny nose, an unedifying spectacle. a relaxing smoke is more dangerous than **** and similarly tiresome.

Aye, you might have a point if this was the case. Unfortunately for the majority who drink it isn't. Most that go out and drink alcohol end up drunk and talking utter shyte just like those who have had a line too many. Alcohol is just as bad imo just those that drink think they have some sort of moral high ground over others that dabble in weed/coke etc because one is legal and one isnt. Wasnt that long ago both were illegal and wont be that long in the future to when both are legal

the large majority have a drink with no bother. like everyone i know.and other countries dont have a problem. a drink is part of their daily life and its celebrated as such in france, italy germnay etc. its a cultural problem, of you can call it that.
but you accept that people on the gear talk utter sh1te and gurn and their nose falls out. good. and i aint being moralistic. had plenty of it meself, just glad i stopped.

Go into any pub in any uk city centre after 10pm and most in them aren't comparing tasting notes over a fine wine or whisky.
Agree about those on gear talking shyte as well. Most of them don't cause any bother though apart from the odd idiot. Hardly ever see anyone smoking weed causing any bother whatsoever, pissed up on the drink though outside the pubs and clubs, that's a different story. Maybe a line would do them good to sober them up. Not condoning either btw just from personal experiences it is the drunks that cause most problems not the weekend druggies on charlie or stoners

a lot more people are having a drink. as i said, its a problem other countries seem to have a lot less of. whys that? some people who have a drink become very boring, but almost everyone on the gear is.
go to a house party. offered a cornucopia of sherbert. fizz, craft beer, wine, whisky. dozens of people become friendly and enlivened by a couple of something nice. most have a good time.
go to one and everyone gets on the gear and its completely different. no interaction, no conversation worthy of the name. drugs are anti-social, you may as well be alone. a few drinks, despite the efforts of the minority of those who shouldnt have any, is not.
