all keep bets stay in the system throughout all suspends and reopenings, it's a disgrace but betfair don't seem interested in addressing it.

...and 'if' Betfair and/or their associates then have exclusive under 1 sec access (i.e. meaning no chance to cancel) it is just another method by which BF are fleecing their customers. The list is long and growing.

can understand obv keep bets there where race starts but susp at end surely you'd think would cancel em.

Hibs, a few weeks ago I added a small piece of automation that flags when a runner first goes 1.01 in the pink and tests if it is in the same second that a market reopens for a photo.

Not one single example so far. I'll let you know if one appears.

when i submit a bet the 1 sec seems to take ages..when a market unsuspends there a chunk already there 100%.

I haven't found any yet, but my automation's only been running a short time. It will spot them if they occur and I'll share if it does.

It's in my own interest to investigate interesting anomalies claimed, to prove to myself their existence or otherwise. I don't really care whether people believe my findings or not.

It checks the exact time when betting opens for a photo and the exact time when 1.01 first appears in the pink side.

So it should always be at least 1 sec between the two.

Well, 0.9s actually to allow for up to 0.1s refresh rate in my automation.

Having recorded the markets and replaying them you could see bets appearing in under 1s after the suspend vanished…..
But as I said at the time, you couldn’t determine from that whether the suspend disappearing and the market reopening where the exact same time

Hibby did you enjoy the close finishes at Huntigdon last week?! Real time camera from  right to left as they went past, finishing slightly from behind. It seemed to take an age for the boys in the van to produce the on the line shot where things were pretty clear. Licence to print money some might say.

15:45 @ Ludlow today was the first time I've noticed a suitable example. Here's what I get:

now they know you are monitoring them i suggest they have decided to just play in running with their 'advantage' coz it's easier to hide their advantage...

in saying all that 1.014 secs is still probably 'getting in first' but it's less obvious than 0.3 or 0.5 secs...

More like 0.00-0.02 ish. There's no human delay as the bot can be set during suspension. As soon as the bot detects the market has reopened the trade will be triggered.

It will be interesting to compare with my data next time someone claims they saw the delay beaten in a photo.

You could expect a bot triggered trade to hit the market as quickly as 1.01 to 1.02 secs after the market reopens for a photo.

As i said, my timing could be 0.1s out either way so you can't read too much into the 100th secs.

ive seen dozens of photos,1 today,the instant the market opens there a lump in the pink...not 1 sec later.

You're right Hibby. I've been testing various in-play markets this evening and it takes about 100ms for an order to be processed and appear in the market. This seems to be in addition to the set in-play delay, so you would expect an in-play horse race trade to take about 1.1 secs to appear.

I've said several times that my timing could be out by 0.1 secs either way. My data is only accurate enough to establish whether people are able to bypass the whole delay for a photo finish. 

But thinking about how Betfair batch and queue orders, it's conceivable that from the standing start of a market unsuspending those using VPS geographically close the Betfair servers might get processed first, thus minimising their process time. I know Bet Angel VPS is based as close as possible to Betfair servers for example.

years ago betfair started a thread asking for opinions from users about removing the 1 second delay . about 95% of people were in favour . they then dropped the idea. i asked someone at betfair why they didn't go ahead and remove it since that is what most people want  and there reply was along the lines of "the market makers do not want it removed . no market makers no liquidity"

The delay is clearly for the benefit of BF.
There is a 5 second delay I/R on Snooker with pitiful liquidity.
Any bets submitted are spotted and offers disappear before getting matched.
It's not rocket science merely a fact of life
