he just seems to have a very poor set of horses this year,I think he has fallen down the ranks with juddmonte does not seem to get their better bred ones anymore but in my opinion one of the top 7 trainers in the country

Every year he starts slowly.
He has been using a very wide range of jockeys recently with Shoemark seemingly the golden boy. |

Media favourite who got off to a very fortunate start. Found the odd decent horse in 30 years since, but has he ever been that good? Never really hinted at threatening those at the top. That's probably why he hasn't got more ammunition. His poor horses are probably better than the one's less vaunted trainers win with.

I thought Watson was still the stable jockey (for what the position's actually worth), so has there been a split?
|
|
By:
he's been banned for a few days but he's ridden 1 of charlton's 22 runners in the last 14 days

sounds like a mutual split then. If you go abroad all winter it doesn't help with the relationship with the horses (and the trainer).

exactly

I have been wondering pretty much the same as to what exactly could possibly be going on with Jason Watson's relationship with the yard. Before Watson got suspended (incidentally, I notice he is back tomorrow) he seemed to be getting winning rides (Andrew Balding particularly) with any other yard other than Roger Charlton's - that isn't to say Roger Charlton has been firing many winners so far this season. Unless I may have missed any announcement, I presume Jason Watson is still the stable jockey. Nonetheless, 0/33 are not encouraging stats to have as a stable jockey in June of any flat season.
One never seeks to knock anyone when the chips are down but I had a growing suspicion from last season that Watson has been riding as though his confidence is slightly dented. Particularly sad, if that's the case when you consider his stellar apprentice season when he virtually looked like the "second coming." |

I was very surprised when Charlton signed Watson.

Did he not use Adam MacNamara?...I still cling to hope that Blue Mist is suddenly going to be a world beater!

adam mac was 2nd jockey for a while but he's with archie watson now

Interesting that on his first day back, Jason rides an Andrew Balding horse in the first race at Salisbury. Be great if the lad rides a winner and re-ignite the season for him. Both Buick and Murphy came through the Kingsclere academy so there must be hope for him yet. Perhaps he is unlucky in that he took on the Beckhampton job at the wrong time. Anyway, good luck to the lad.

What has gone wrong at the historic Beckhampton yard? ----------------- Jeremy Tree died ... Never been the same since. |

I noticed that his son is working down under with a powerful Australian trainer, can’t recall the name though.
Maybe not too long before the son takes over the licence or becomes a joint licence. Perhaps new young blood may spark a revival. |

RothmanMike,
The elder of Roger's two sons - Harry - is already his assistant trainer and has been for a few years now. |
