Dettori absolutely ruined it's handicap mark.

As I put on another thread it was bit like Celtic Swing's win at Doncaster in the Racing Post Trophy back in the 90's, a demolition down to the prevailing ground . That would be my reason. Time will tell of course.
Report lapsy pa June 4, 2021 4:56 PM BST
Ground obv ideal for her but the way she went from midpack cantering to scoot away looked almost freakish,i can't see it being a one off though i doubt she will ever win in that manner again, unbeaten with a bit of give for the rest of the season would be my guess

Heavy rain on already over watered ground(the Clerk would not have expected that rain several days ago).
Plus the extra 2f was a big plus.I backed Teona who did not appear to come round Tatt.that well.

Mystery Angel was 2nd FFS.

So many got stopped in runs. It was really messy. 16L is a distance that shouldn't be taken very moderately. Would be more like 3/4l if it wasn't a messy race

it cost them 15L?
Mystery Angel was 2nd to here @York by over 4L.

They are crooks. Always have been and always will be. We are just pawns to them and they are allowed to get away with it without question. They had a horse 20 lengths better than the favourite and didn't know it. The number of times this happens infinitesimal. And we just move on to the next time. They are crook. Simple as that. And I have been saying it for years.
Report differentdrum June 4, 2021 9:16 PM BST
You could have put this thread up after the York performance.

As I said on another thread I backed her last July for the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks at 40/1. When I cashed out I was glad to get most of my money back. Any sane person would have done similar as her performances were so disappointing there seemed little point in even running in the Classics. The mystery was why she kept running in top level races when there was so little encouragement in any of the runs.

The transformation - with no obvious explanation - has been staggering. At York she won nicely, but it was a surprise win, and she very much had the run of the race. Being by Deep Impact today's ground must have a big worry, and I am pretty sure the trainer had her down as a good ground horse. Look what happened. Perhaps it was a very ordinary renewal, but however bad the rest might have been, she was in a totally different league.

It will be interesting to see if they keep her to her own sex and just mop up an Irish Oaks or aim a little higher.
Report brigust1 June 4, 2021 9:36 PM BST
This is another problem I have always banged on about Ballydoyle. They have too many horses at a top level. Had this filly today been trained by Oxx, Gosden, Stoute etc she would probably have been unbeaten, winning both the Guineas and the Oaks. He screws up more horses than anything else. He always has done as far back as Hawk Wing.
Report harry callaghan June 4, 2021 11:00 PM BST
Nothing said that horse could perform how she has this season.

It’s the hormone treatment again and again with these Irish race mares.

Anyone seen the Joseph O’Brien horse entered in America at the weekend, unbelievable improvement from basically plater form
Report doantwin2easy June 4, 2021 11:04 PM BST
Asking why this filly won nothing last year is like asking why Mo Farrah never won anything at 800m.

Ended last season with a close third in the G1 fillies mile at 8f, and even that would have been inadequate.

Hell of a performance today for me.

Snowfall was eighth of ten in the Fillies Mile. Just stepping up in trip wouldn't in itself explain such improvement.

amazing if you backed the fav you had to back that great for those who know how the obrien operation works lucky for me plenty of us do its a licence to print, just like the derby fairly easy to work it out what they are playing at

the factory produces another winner, but greatest ever trainer wouldnt spot the difference if he had  frankel or quixall crossett in his lot

was this the day they fkd up the numbers of the two O'brien horses. according to the SL, Snowfall was third. but the rp reports it as 8th.

Either way, comments that a 2yr old running at 7-8f couldn't improve significantly as a middle distance 3yr old are pretty ridiculous.
Report irishone June 5, 2021 5:27 AM BST
The trainer said he didnt know if the horse would like the ground or the distance on i t v before the race. He said the chester win was very encouraging.

Horses do tend to improve from 2-3 years. Try getting a foal and keeping it at home for a while. See how you get on.
Report brigust1 June 5, 2021 9:35 AM BST
Say what you want, O'Brien had a horse in his yard 20 lengths better than the Oaks and Guineas favourite, the horse more ink has been used on since the Titanic sank and I wonder how much money has been lost on it?
I have been slagging off O'Brien for too many years and he just keeps on giving. The shotgun approach where either he doesn't know what is the best, Moore doesn't know what is the best or they are putting us away because their bosses are bookies at heart is doing nothing for me or the credibility of my sport. And the media refuse to saying anything.
I like the top class races and I like to bet in them but with this clown you cannot back his horses or lay his horses with any confidence and you certainly cannot bet antepost. They are a real pain to me.
I agree with Prescott, limit the numbers these trainers train or link their horses together for betting purposes.

snap, ive gone to the point now not having a bet, just watching these big races hoping anybody else winsrather than coolmore  , they really have spoiled the racing i loved

Pretty ridiculous is someone who makes a judgement on a horse they think has finished third when it actually finished eighth.

Nobody is saying horses can't improve for a step up in distance, but the amount of improvement Snowfall seems to have shown is ridiculous. The other thing that needs emphasising is that it went backwards with experience as a two year old. Certainly not the profile of a horse that was suddenly going to take a massive step in the other direction.
Report duncan idaho June 5, 2021 12:07 PM BST
i think there's little doubt she was underperforming at 2 for whatever reason...she didnt have a single piece of form at 2 that entitled her to be tried in anything stronger than listed, maybe Grp 3, company, yet they ran her in a Grp 2 and 2 Grp 1s...she was obv showing more at home than on the track

(agree that the stiffer test of stamina doesnt solely explain going from an exposed high 80s horse at 2 to a 16-length Oaks winner...for all ydays race was over a minute longer than the Fillies Mile)
