From next Monday for bets over £200 (FOBT: £500) they will require source of funds info.

haven't been in a bookies since 2010 but surely those kind of bets are referred anyway?
Report Trusty May 10, 2021 2:04 PM BST
Shows you where their interest lies!
Report scrabbler May 10, 2021 2:06 PM BST
Good luck getting £200 on in a Laddies.
Report the dealer May 10, 2021 2:08 PM BST
Can you post a link for this ?
Report dave1357 May 10, 2021 2:11 PM BST
source of funds is not the same as affordability.
Report slickster May 10, 2021 2:11 PM BST
If I want 200 notes on I go to several shops.
Report punts May 10, 2021 2:12 PM BST
sorry dave. I got mixed up

So what kind of info will they want ?
Report punts May 10, 2021 2:13 PM BST
no link dealer.. came from Racing twitter

A Ladbrokes shop anywhere.

Punter wants £300 on a 100/30 shot.

Source of funds requested. Let's assume punter can and does supply. Takes 10 mins.

Right Sir, You've demonstrated SOF now the bet - £20 at 5/2 ok?
Report jimnast May 10, 2021 2:15 PM BST
Laughthose were my thoughts paris
Report dave1357 May 10, 2021 2:15 PM BST
^^^^where the money comes from ie savings or selling a house would be a legal source of funds but not a sustainable expenditure.
Report punts May 10, 2021 2:16 PM BST
Yeah parispike... I can't imagine they take these bets anyway or are referred to HQ?

I don't know.. haven't been in one for a long time.

From who on twitter punts ?

Imo far too much work still to be done on this before it hits shops, for everyone punting to those stakes. In truth if it ever does come in at shop level, at the moment near impossible for it to work

dealer: I wouldn't imagine many people bet at that level anyway!

if I was doing a coup it would be in 20's or something like that in many shops...
Report the dealer May 10, 2021 2:34 PM BST
Plenty punting at that level and more in shops.

FOBT 500?

Why the difference?

Laugh

OK dealer when I was last in one in Brum around 2010 it was full of pensioners betting 50p e/w Silly

Also not a very nice atmosphere. I don't think they liked me (imagine that!) Devil

Last time i was in a bookies, all it had in were eastern europeans around the FOBTs.....atmosphere was toxic
Report greenteethnarrabacktroutmoy May 10, 2021 2:42 PM BST
what concerns me more is being a winning punter and getting free bets..and bf customers long term winners and no PC..

never happens to me.

Report casemoney May 10, 2021 2:52 PM BST
Dealer  ,I have managed many shops back in the day , people punting at that level were a rarity
Report Hayden May 10, 2021 2:55 PM BST
To make sure there's no misunderstanding whether it's exact £200 or over £200 i could see £199 stakes becoming quite popular.

Unlikely anybody would have the proof on them if they go in to put a bet on.

What's the point anyway. There are 5 bookies within 50 yards in my town. You could go in all 5 and spread your cash.

The odds on Ladbrokes standing out with best price is 50/1.

So a policy that solves nothing.
Report Trusty May 10, 2021 3:10 PM BST
Depends where shop is; ladcrooks in Curzon street probably never took a bet under £500.
Report the dealer May 10, 2021 3:10 PM BST
Casemoney I've been 41 years in the business in some form of another, can only speak for the area I'm in but it would surprise many how much some of these shops are taking. Betting terminals taking loads, still OTC business and fobts on in a couple of weeks.
The firms are spending plenty, in shop technology and refurbishment.
The vast majority in shop punters wouldn't know what a restriction is.

I wonder what will happen if you win a monkey, collect, hang around a few minutes, then ask for £300 on something else.

They would line your path to the machine with rose petals
Report duffy May 10, 2021 4:21 PM BST
It won't be long before someone loses a few hundred on a machine and then turns to walk out the shop and a staff member rushes over and asks for proof as to why you need to stop.Laugh
Report Storm Alert May 10, 2021 4:42 PM BST
So I can lose £500 in an FOBT where I have no chance of winning and the max win is £500, but only £200 on a sports bet. That makes sense Crazy.

You know what too many tweets make...
Report SlippyBlue May 10, 2021 4:45 PM BST
I haven't been in a shop for about 6 years or so, my mate managed for P.P. in Streatham and I used to pop in to see him every now and then. OTC was poor in slips and turnover but the FOBTs were pretty strong. 2 groups of Eastern European laundering drug money mainly and the rest was people on the rock and roll putting their benefits in and invariably doing the lot. He hated this side of the job and jacked it in a couple of years ago.
Report hulk23 May 10, 2021 5:08 PM BST

Duffy not every person working at a bookies gives a **** about how much the customer is spending in the shop or what they are spending it on. Most bookies staff don't give a **** if you're getting £1 or £1000 as long as you're not a scammer
