I am probably missing something - but a trade is a back matching a lay - how would you do separate back and lay traded volumes?
I have only ever seen the data next to the graph (I am guessing you mean this and not the graph itself?) show available to back and available to lay (unmatched) and total traded (matched) at each price point.

HOW can you Know the differences, that you claim can happen - swifty ... When the Graphs show Everybody else's Bets in Total? ... Assuming that you mean the Amounts Ladder

cheers guys. In thin markets (usually US ones) I may have X at a certain price matched and X shows in the amounts ladder. Other times I may have X matched at a very obscure price but 2X may show in the traded amounts. That's my question. As another e.g. if the sole bet traded at 1.03 was 1000 is the traded volume 1000, or 1030?

Sorry - swifty - Not being facetious in any way - But, I feel that we all have bigger fish to fry than - "thin US markets" - and, consequently, your query is ineffectual to the vast majority.
I can appreciate your posting - as what you say makes No Sense, whatsoever, in the grand sheme of Betfair Market functions - if that is what is actually happening ...
However - I have to ask ... Are you entirely sure about what you (believe) you are seeing.

onlooker, you don't have bigger fish to fry, you've been posting how you've been sitting on your hands with the racing not to your fancy!
Anyway, it's not exclusively US markets, whether you care about them or not, it's potentially all markets at obscure prices but I was using US as example in this instance. I've had 2 matched at 320 and it shows as 2 in traded amounts, I've had 2 matched at 230 and it shows as 4 in traded amounts, something doesn't always add up.

Thanks for clarifying that you feel it is - "it's not exclusively US markets" ...
That - paints a far different picture ...
It would have helped your query had you stated that more forcefully originally - rather than "(usually US ones)"
However - we will move one - and I will monitor what you say whenever I get the opportunity, henceforth.
May I add that ...
longbridge (the first respondent) is very, very, good on all matters to do with Betfair FUNCTIONALITY ... and he, too, did respond by posting - "What do you mean?"
Hopefully he will now return to the Thread

It's easier to identify this anomaly on thin markets when you may have swiped all prices down from treble figures to very low with a 100 bet. Much harder to guarantee no-one else may have got equal bets as you (so twice the traded amount could be possible) with UK races and thousands more traded. Anyway, it was only a query, it's sometimes nice to have it confirmed you got the lot.
longbridge, if you do look back in, obv I'm talking about post-race traded amount data.

Full communication is everything in circumstances such as this.
If you are Swiping' "£100 DOWN from treble figures to very low"
Could it be/it COULD be - that the Bulk of your £100 has been Matched at the Higher and Downwards prices (Best Price Execution) - and - as the Market is "very thin" - what is left of your £100 THEN gets Matched in 'Drips and Draps' of LESS than £2 Units (anything from £1 to £1.99) that THEN shows as just £2 MATCHED on the Ladder.
That would explain you ONLY seeing £2 Matched - at the Bottom end of your (collective) Bets.

Maybe someone else will have experienced similar. Bet history may show full £2 matches at various increments down from 100 to small, some will show on traded amount data as £2 but some will show as £4.
Cheers for your interest, I'll try to be clearer next time!
and btw I think you'll find it's dribs and drabs!

I know this is super old, but I ran into something similar, and I think I know the answer - cross matching. In some markets BF will automatically cross match, so if the two runners are "A" and "B", then if you back A £10 at 11.0 that is the same as Lay £100 B at 1.1 [A wins, will £100, B wins lose £10]. So if you offer to Back B £100 at 1.1 then it will appear on screen as BOTH Back A £10 @ 11.0 and Lay B £100 @ 1.1 Then if some one clicks on either of those you will get matched, BUT the traded volume will appear in the actual odds. So if the other side clicks out "actual" bet then both bets will appear in the volume (i.e. £200 at 1.1 in B), but if they click on the synthetic "cross bet", then you only see £100 at 1.1 in B (your money) and their bet appears as £10 at 11 in A.
