A new ownership initiative is offering individual shares in Randox Grand National hopefuls Potters Corner and Balko Des Flos, as well as Royal Ascot winner The Lir Jet, for as little as £75 to £84 each, aiming to grow ownership engagement in Britain and Ireland.

RacehorseClub, a business funded by "a small group of investors with links to the racing industry", appears to offer a micro-share ownership service similar to the MyRacehorse group in the US involved in Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic hero Authentic.

For a one-off fee, members will have ownership benefits during horses' racing careers, such as access to exclusive content from trainers and jockeys, a membership pack and prize-money relative to the percentage owned in each horse.

Yard visits and owners' tickets can be won via a members' ballot, with champion jockey Oisin Murphy and ITV Racing's Ed Chamberlin listed as ambassadors for the group.

A 0.002 per cent share in Welsh National winner Potters Corner, a 25-1 chance for the Aintree highlight, costs £75, while 0.02 per cent of former Ryanair Chase winner Balko Des Flos – recently bought by the group for £110,000 – costs £80.

If either runner fails to line up for the start of the 2021 Grand National, then owners will be offered a full refund.

Members can acquire 0.002 per cent of 2020 Norfolk Stakes winner The Lir Jet for £84, with trainer Michael Bell eager to attract new blood to the ownership ranks.

"Plenty of taxi-drivers have a share in a racehorse in Australia, but it may not be the same in London, even though they still might like a bet and enjoy racing," he said.

"The more people that we can get involved in racehorse ownership the better."

Potters Corner's trainer Christian Williams added: "This makes everything affordable. It doesn’t matter what share you own, if you’re sitting at home and you can cheer your horse on, jumping up and down in the lounge, you don’t get a feeling like it."

Henry de Bromhead, who was also positive about the initiative, revealed Rachael Blackmore would most likely ride Minella Times or Balko Des Flos at Aintree, although plans have not been made yet.

RacehorseClub racing manager Max Pimlott said the group would place an emphasis on quality horses, open to the idea of buying potential Royal Ascot-bound maiden winners and expanding internationally in time.

"The whole idea is to get more people involved in horseracing and to dip a toe in the water as to what racehorse ownership is all about," he said.

"We want as many people, no matter what background they come from or their knowledge of racing, to get involved in the industry."

He added: "If anything like 100, 200 or 300 people end up owning horses outright in the future, then we've done a good thing for racing, I hope.

"We're a business and, of course, we want to make money, but we want to give back to the industry."

You just knew Ed "oh isn't that lovely" Chamberlain would be involved in this. Getting paid a nice sum for helping to rope people into this "ownership" scam. The guy is basically a used car salesman that's blagged his way into sports presenting job on mainstream Television.

Get a share in Potters tell your friends and if he wins they will want to go and see him but you can't do that because you have to be in a ballot with the other owners so very little chance of seeing horse at yard or at the races but of course he's your horse ffs.

0.002 per cent share x 1000 = 2% x £75 per 0.002 = £75K So the horse is valued at 3.75M!

How's my Math, 1830?

Have 3 ponies on the nag to win the GN.

Quick hit and more of an adrenaline rush should the mule win.

They've got Frankie involved in the advertising propaganda and Ed will use his slot on ITV to plug it as often as possible. Like Leif says, why not just have your £75 on the horse to win the race?

How anyone could fall for this is beyond me but......Conditions 17 and 18 from the terms and conditions.  Interesting, given the huge number of shares they are offering for each horse. Wonder what their breakpoint is for invoking these conditions. Are the monies paid ring-fenced ahead of the club being formed?

From the website...
17. Where the club is in the process of being formed and the number of Shares allocated to Members is less than the number required to form the club (as determined by the Company), the Company reserves the right not to proceed with forming the club and shall return all monies paid by the applicants. Alternatively, the Company may decide to re-advertise the club, and or to change the structure/financing of the proposed club. No person shall own a Share or have any other right to or interest in the Racehorse until the Company notifies that person that he is a Member and that the club has been formed.

18. Where the company decides to proceed with the club but not all of the shares have been sold, the Company, at its absolute discretion, may sell Shares at a higher or lower sum than the original offer price. (Note: there are a number of factors that can affect the value of a Racehorse, including but not limited to; illness and/or poor performance on the racecourse. The value may increase if the Racehorse performs well on the racecourse or other Racehorses related in the family perform well). (Note: that any changes to the value of the Racehorse will be reflected in the Share price at the earliest available opportunity, but may not be changed immediately (the exact date of change will be at the discretion of The Company).

To the OP.
0.002% = 1/50,000th of the horse. Multiply by £75 values the horse at £3.75M for what's essentially a good handicapper.

It's far from surprising really that people are being enticed into buying products they can barely have any meaningful, tangible or experiential interaction with.

In a more and more 'virtual world' it is becoming less important to attend in a physical form in all sorts of spheres. Not one the older generations will readily buy into.

Is this just tapping into the modern generation in a bid to shore up ownership and keep the game afloat amid an exodus of wealthy owners who've given up pi&&ing money down the pan?

This incentive has more than likely backing from the top of the game?

The horseracing community needs to open up to public scrutiny and not assume or think they know best. This is 2021 not 1970's.
