a good read
ITV should have someone reporting from the ring useing tic tak as they also read out the prices. Bring some pizaz back and history to the show. Remember them well and the betting ticket just a card with a number on, and end of the race meeting all the losing tickets strewn across the floor. At the greyhounds no even bothering to give you a card if a regular. Never saw any betting disputes either. Seemed more fun back in the day |

Used to be a small old guy (about 5ft)with glasses at the southern tracks about 35-40 years ago.
At Newbury he would be on the first floor of the grandstand that stood between the last fence and the winning line, best view of course there and it was between the silver ring and the tatts. Stood buy him were a few London faces that I 'knew ' from greyhound tracks, they were laying most of the bets he got signalled up to him, he'd ask them if they wanted them. Happy days |

When Hereford re-opened, they should have erected a statue of Paul Docherty in front of the books. Balancing on his stool, cheeks red, gloves white, and drowning out the commentary trying to bet tens on as they jumped the last.
