Thought about going over there with Joao De Mata before the Covid.
Always looks sunny with plenty of racecourses. Also wanted to visit Spion Kop, you know the one from the Boer War , where the Lancashire Regiment lost many soldiers. It’s what the Liverpool stand was named after. May get there eventually, but not in the foreseeable. |

mike ive been to kenilworth to be honest i was bored silly with it,plenty to do in south africa but not the racing.
|

Not just the racing, although they do have a few world class jocks/trainers, Lerena, Strydom,de Kock.
Would probably try to go when there’s a Cricket or Rugby test series. A lot of history also. The only thing I don’t like is their regular Thunder storms and the Lightening looks a big worry. Also they only have a couple of handicaps per meeting, unlike over here where we have 6 on a 7 race card. |

Been there 3 times, Durban, joburg etc,
Greyville is the local racecourse, not many there at a night meeting we went to. Visited rourkes drift (ZULU), it is/was a fantastic country, but not the same now. |
|

my intention was the lions tour this year mike but thats a non runner now, as koi says its a fantastic country all my visits have been the western cape not been up to durban but i know people who have they all see the spion kop and zulu areas as well worth the visit, you will never eat better than you do over there.
koi but not the same now how do you mean ? |

Don't forget the anti car jacking extras when you hire your car...

arent the over rounds obscene there?
|

By:
reg it is still very very reasonable ,top class restaurants, the vineyards, exceptional guest houses, you cant spend it.
11kv never had a problem with anything like that ,you should perhaps look at our country for violence and terrorism and general ripp off merchants. |
|
By:
Been there twice and never had a real problem, couple of times felt a bit uncomfortable but went to places probably shouldn't have gone.
Visited the Kruger park and will never better that I guess.... |
|
By:
never been to the kruger 11kv did a smaller one about 200 miles from cape town which was really enjoyable and very interesting.i know hat you mean about been in a place i probably should not of been ,the six nations is always on when i go and we decided to watch england and scotland on long street cape town but as you do with all day sessions you never give up,3am not having a clue where the hotel was ,was stupid and i did ask myself a few questions the following morning.

Joao De Mata does a specialist trip, including visits to courses and studs, and ‘cos he part owns a few
you get an intro to few trainers and jocks. He also includes golf and scuba diving and stuff. Too energetic for me, but he obviously knows the score, re:accommodation, no go areas, etc. He knows best places to stay, and cheap flights. Think he was talking less than £3k all in for 10 days. Then COVID happened. |

Spent 4 weeks there 2nd time and didn't want to leave ............
Went to Turffontein a couple of times, very quiet on the days we went but decent racing I thought.... |
