Must p1ss these up and coming jockeys off when trainers are telling them not to try on a horse . You know they can do a lot better , and so does the jockey , but the trainers/owners pay their wages so they look bad .....
Must put the owners and trainers in quite a predicament when tactics used lto almost won them the race. No idea what LP was doing in the 3.40 but it was certainly not to win!

For goodness sake - Bargain-basement horse in a bloody awful race.
Your fault for making it FAV ....
Others prefer to sit on their hands with dreadful races like today.
Don't believe for one second that the Trainer went to all the trouble of managing to book her .... only to tell her to 'put the brakes on'
It is rated just 47 - so isn't going to get any benefit from being dropped in the Ratings - IF it can get into another race - and, especially as all horses have to run Off a minimum rating of 50 from Feb 1st
Simply does not make any sense whatsoever.
Alternatively ...
6/1 on the Betting Forecast - with NO guarantee Punters would be looking to pile in - on a rubbish race.
How much do you think that they were imagining to get out of Laying it?

Lingfield is a tough track if you don't get a good starting position or you get out of position during the race. On Everkyllachy, it would never have beaten the winner and finished beaten a short head for 2nd, on twentyshares on another day she could have won, poor position from a poor draw, havent watched the OP's race so can't comment but still find some of these comments very harsh on what after all is a 7 lb claimer.

Its the nature of the beast on here. She could go 50 rides without a comment, then she has one or two where things haven't gone right for whatever reason but it has to be bent, a non trier etc etc
The OP has always had a vivid imagination, in my experience the majority of trainers don't even bet. The majority of owners bets would make no difference to any markets. Of course some aren't straight but nothing like imo what some seem to think and 100% she didn't pull anything today.

Stevie McKeane is banded stakes level horse. He can pick up one of these races but you get the feeling everything would need to fall right for it. Twentysharesofgrey The kind of horse who runs on when its all too late. Looks like connections are struggling to find the right trip for it. Everykallchy Not good enough, winner looks well ahead of the handicapper
Agree with those above, very harsh criticism

the o p is talking about the effort on Steavie McKeane not about her overall ability, if Jamie Spencer had ridden that horse the same way, he would have been castigated. cheers.

Not at all criticizing Laura , in fact standing up for jockeys , We have all seen every established jockey ride a race where he/she has never tried an ounce , FACT . End of . My point is the reasoning behind this is MOST cases this MUST due to the instructions given by the trainer or owner ! My original point was this must be disheartening for the jockey to be put in this position ! When we see a non-trier we usually blame the jockey , when it fact the said jockey was just doing what he/she was told/paid to do ?

I didn't think it was a particularly poor ride. Not great but certainly not an obvious non-trier (plenty more obvious than that). She's a good 7lb claimer - 12% strike rate, that's up with the top jocks. And pumphol, there are plenty of threads extolling her virtues - she has quite a fan base.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, people see different things during races but I just can't have it, that she was told by an owner, trainer or anyone else to stop it from winning and rode it as such.

My post should have read , Laura Pearson is riding great at this moment in time , trying in every race . In my opinion she rides better than what we SEEN in that race ! My reason behind that comment was there must have been a reason for that ! I stick to my original point that for whatever reason a jockey may be told by his /her wage payer/boss not be be hard on the horse , ie , not win , just an opinion

She is a 7lb claimer - you know what you are going to get imo - i.e. an inexperienced jockey is the downside - the upside is the 7lbs!
Like most of them (7lb claimers), though not all, she is probably best on horses that are straightforward (point and shoot). The really good ones can manage a bit of "race craft" and get themselves not only into a good position - but also out of a bad position. Not convinced she falls into that category (yet) but not many do while still claiming seven. Today wasn't her finest hour - four fancied rides (11/4, 9/2, 4/1 & 7/2) finishing 3rd, 5th, 3rd & 6th - but 12% is a good strike rate and she is only down £8.67 (level stakes) from 150 rides.
If one ride, race or horse makes a big difference to your day - you are doing it wrong imo.
Regarding "point & shoot" - she really didn't have one of those today - she was drawn 10 in the 5f handicap and 8, then 9 in the two 6f Handicaps. Not saying that excuses her but I think you have to decide in what kind of scenario do you want to trade 7lbs for an inexperienced rider?

Laura P got a very favourable mention on Racing TV's Preview of 2021 (covering Cheltenham, the Classics and, at the end, jockeys).
The programme can be watched on Racing TV itself (or Facebook?) or Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcERnJZPbk8
